  • Default water in Darkplaces

I was wondering if darkplaces is incompatible with the texture-warping water and portal effect found in winquake, which I had used before discovering darkplaces. It looks something like this:

But, in darkplaces, with no modding (other than the inclusion of the engine) it appears like this:

The wavy effect is also applied when underwater or in lava as a filter in winquake, but darkplaces also does not do this. Is there a way to enable either instance of this effect? Thank you.

I suggest you use https://directq.codeplex.com/ which gives you a very faithful look out of the box.

I might use that, however I was primarily wondering whether this effect is even possible in darkplaces. If it's not, thank you for the link and I'll use that program for my unmodded quake directory.

        Hello PlakRast,

MH handmade the shader effects you described for his DirectQ engine to be similar to original Quake.
DarkPlaces does not have this same swirling effect.

Do what Spirit suggests and you will have the most faithful Quake experience.

        Have fun,
        Seven

Okay then, that's fine if that's the case. It would be nice if darkplaces did have that effect though; maybe someone will make a shader or it will be added. Anyway, thank you.
