  • DP performance problem on my PC

Hi, guys! I'm the new member of this forum. I'm having a problem with Darkplaces on my PC. The FPS tends to drop into 30 fps everytime I encounter the water (I'm using pretty water 0.55). But even worse, the fps drop severely into 20 fps when using Reflecting Overload (especially in Start map). When I don't encouter both, my fps is about 70-135 fps (135 is my fps cap). My PC specs are:

    - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (6.1, build 7601)
    - AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core 2.6GHz
    - NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB with NVIDIA Driver 331.82
    - 6GB RAM
    - Realtek HD Audio Driver R271

Is it normal? My PC is a 2009 model. I thought my PC was good enough for such a thing. Is there any way to improve the performance? Btw, I also attach my config file. My DP version is autobuild_20130709. Here the contents of my ID1 folder.

Any help will be really appreciated!

    yes, its normal.
water pretty much tripples the amount of stuff that needs to be drawn.
the start map has about 4 different water surfaces all visible at once, occasionally combined with an extra mirror...

      Hello SDY,

      What spike said.
      r_water_resolutionmultiplier helps a little, though.

In addition, you should be careful with the list of .pk3s in your ID1 folder.
You have several .pk3s that conflicts with each other.
Mostly monster replacements but also Water replacement (!)

      For the water:
Either use your dpwater0.55.pk3 or zz_WA_Prettywater_DDS.pk3, but not both at the same time. Maybe this will already reduce your performance issue somehow.

I always wonder why people are adding these "zzzz" in front of their .pk3 names.
That does not help to avoid conflicts for the unexperienced users.

      Best of luck,
      Seven

if all else fails, you can go and edit out a few rtlights in the worst places.
most of them were made without considering reflective water, so they perhaps should be updated/improved for that by someone who has the motivation to do so.

also, that's a lot of zs... you should consider using some unicode chars instead. you can get a higher sort order that way. plus its more imaginative.
put 😈 as its first char and then laugh in the face of all the less-evil competition... MWAHAHA!!!
