  • Darkplaces music issue

    Hey everyone.

Got abit of a problem with Darkplaces that i cannot make heads or tails with, whenever i attempt to play scourge of armagon with Darkplaces, the engine defaults back to using id1's music tracks (i can fix this by removing the music files from id1 and only then will darkplaces play the correct music files)

Is this a common issue? or am i just doing something wrong?

how are you loading up the mission-pack?

you have to load it by starting darkplaces with the parameter -hipnotic, and NOT -game hipnotic

also make sure you actually have the hipnotic music-pack,
and have it placed inside the hipnotic folder:
    http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-mod...sic-packs.html
    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
    > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

      Hello Dybdal,

The shortcut command has nothing to do with your music issue.
Starting Mission pack 1 with -hipnotic rather than -game hipnotic mainly loads the correct extended HUD that is needed in mission pack 1.

The problem that you are facing is:
You use different sound formats for your ID1 music and your HIPNOTIC music.
Most probably you have .wav music files for ID1 and .ogg music files for HIPNOTIC.

You have to consider / take into account that Darkplaces follows special rules /priorities for loading external files. For music:
.wav is always loaded after .ogg.
Even when you have .wav music in your ID1 sound/cdtracks subfolder, it will not play .ogg music in your HIPNOTIC sound/cdtracks subfolder.

Putting your music files into different archives (.pak, .pk3) even complicates things.

      Example:
The start map of HIPNOTIC uses track008.
If you have a track008.wav in your ID1 sound/cdtracks subfolder, and track008.ogg in your HIPNOTIC sound/cdtracks subfolder, it will play the ID1 music.

So, easiest way to avoid these issues: Use the same music format in all your mods.
The link to Roy Battys music packs are all .ogg, so they will do the job.

      Good luck.

As allways thank you for the replys, it never ceases to amaze me that even though i only come back to quake roughly twice a year when the bug hits me, the community is still so extremly helpfull.

        but...

What your both discribing isnt whats causing this issue, the game is being called though -hipnotic and not -game hipnotic and the music files are both in .ogg format and not mp3 or wav format.

Darkplaces is installed onto the steam edition and its the newest version available, this is why i simply dont understand whats happening and i dont know what to do.

Update2: There is really something messed up with DarkPlaces, the PK3 files works perfectly (allmost.. il get to that in abit) but if you take out the file structure inside and place it into the correct folder, darkplaces outright refuses to play them and im stumped as to why thats happening, i do not get it.

And about Roy Batty's PK3 music packs, they all work except the one for SHRAK.. that one, darkplaces outright refuses to play, it dosnt matter what folder i place it into to the client will not play any of the tracks that are present.

Edit: Same is true for FTE QuakeWorld, it will not play the SHRAK.pk3 music pack.. even when placed into id1's folder the game will not play any music at all but replace it with any of the other music packs and the game will do it, no problem.
2nd Edit: Its the PK3 file and not the ogg files them selfs thats the issue as moving all of shrak's ogg files into a working music pack fixes this issue, it seems its just down to the PK3 file being corrupt or something.
