  • qrack fps help

    hello

ok so someone got me using this client. but i dont feel i have a solid grasp on really how it works or how im supposed to get playable fps on it

something happened the other day which made me realize that there is something wrong with my qrack setup

i just started getting this weird lag and stutter, but when i switched back to pq, i didnt have it - but i like qrack (despite being difficult sometimes) and id like to give it more time

    so here's the deal

from what I understand, i know im working with 3 variables here
    maxfps
    netfps
    and hostfps

what should they all be set to. i have a 60hz display, vsync is off

i know its some sort of combination here but... what could it be? seems a lot of work to fiddle and experiment with each one.. and im sure it might be the same numbers (values) for everyone for a nice modern computer - which I have

i searched the forums before posting this, but I didnt get much relevant results

so yea, what should I set them to? thanks... everything else works pretty well, except it doesnt save the changes under the menu options (is this some sort of bug or is the client broken?) So I dont know what they are anymore (the commands to put them in a permanent place - maybe in a cfg file?)... and it seems like a lot of work to re-enable them each time I want to play

    Hi Gem,

I'm no expert here but what you set them to is partly determined by the hardware it is running on. For example, as I tend to play solely on a rather basic laptop it's graphical capabilities are a bit limited and the sweet spot for my cl_maxfps is around 220. You may have some sort of monster PC which can accommodate higher settings and it might be a case of trial and error until you find your optimum setting. Maybe see what it is set to at the moment and use 200-220 as a baseline?

If you are not able to save your config changes it sounds as though your configuration files (config cfg?) are locked. Silly question but is it / are they read only?

Hope this may be of some use to you.

    Kind regards

    Monty

I'm not sure my pc qualifies as a monster machine hehe but it certainly runs most newer titles at full detail and it plays smoothly, so yea I think its alright

and what exactly is netfps.. curious to know?

cl_netfps just throttles the outbound packets to the server.

cl_maxfps 999 //obviously this will max out dependent of the raw power of your gpu. Logical values are 60, 72, 75, 125, 144, 150, etc.

cl_netfps 72 // how often your client will spit out packets to the server; max. Most servers only talk to the client 20 times a sec so spamming the server at the rate of your maxfps is wasteful.

host_maxfps 72 // this is for singleplayer games only. It forces the physics to run at this rate, and thus caps your cl_maxfps as well.

Start with a clean baseline, goto options graphics options then theres a classic setting. That should run the quickest, though, make sure gl_motion_blur is 0 and gl_detail 0, etc just look at your config.cfg and turn things off you dont need. At the bare bones settings, Qrack will run faster than PQ (v3.50), and look exactly the same.

ok thank you very much i know it plays well, thats why im liking it

the motion and the detail is indeed 0 and this time it does save the setting (classic) when I come back to qrack

so if i understand correctly from your post, they should be
          999
          72
          72

i wasnt sure if you were telling me a definition of them or letting me know the actual values... but ok, considering i got a lets say, top computer, those would be the max values, and the logical values would be what i would try out if i didnt have a good computer (60, 72, 75, 125, 144, 150..), right?

classic mode looks very nice and clean btw, thanks

            ya cl_maxfps 999 is overkill.
you'd be fine just setting it to 125fps ala QuakeLive.
