So use a old driver and sacrifice any fixes, performance gains or improvements to the Nvidia drivers for everything else just for clean shadows in DP, live with the "dirty" shadows like I have or don't use shadows. YES all 3 options kind of suck, but that's the way it is.

It's not DP, but FTEQW has beautiful clean shadows with no garbage.
Don't know why he blames the drivers when "darkplacesenginewindows64only20110628.zip" doesn't even have the shadow noise/flickering problem.
Any version after "darkplacesenginewindows64only20110628.zip" has the problem

It's why I never bothered to update DarkPlaces

I use a GeForce Titan X with current drivers

Another thing that sucks about DP, is that the developer isn't around anymore to help out. Spike is always around answering questions about his engine, which in several ways excels past DP.

EDIT: And R00k too. Haha sorry, missed ya.

        Hello,

Until someone fixes the engine code you can do this to fix the bug completely:
Enter this one time into your console and it will be saved in your config:
        r_shadow_shadowmapping 0

It works with every Darkplaces build and every driver.

What it does is, it switches to stencil shadows. So your shadows will have sharp edges instead often soften ones.

        Best wishes,
        Seven

Wonder if diff'ing the 2011 vs 2014 version would help?

@Seven, yes the conversion would be specifically for dp/fte, meaning that the current version already works on ProQuake, but instead of using proquake qccx hacks for string manipulations, use extensions. Only servers available for netQuake are 99% proquake/dp the other 1% use basic winQuake. I just wanted to use a known stable build of DP so i know there's no issues.

Requiring the admin to use dp/fte as a server doesnt necessarily require a dp/fte client.
