  • Pocket Quake

I tried running Quake on a Pocket PC (iPaq 214, WM 6.5), but all I get is sound and a white screen.

Google told me there's a white-screen-fix, but all the links are either dead or lead to phishing websites.

Maybe someone here has it, or knows how to fix it?

Maybe there is other port, which should work better? Or maybe Dos emulator should do it?

Out of curiosity, how do you control the game on this device?

I tried other ports, they don't run at all. DOSbox is possible, but uncontrollable and extremely slow.

I also tried several Doom ports, none of them work - Pocket PCs didn't get muc love, obviously... there should be a Hexen 2 port also, but everywhere you go to download it, you need to register on dubious websites.

You control the game with combination of dpad and stylus - at least that's my guess, I can't really tell, because it doesn't work....

          @register at dubious websites

So register away if you think they might have the info you need.

I don't recall PocketQ runs on anything newer than WM 2003. The free version of the optimizing compiler was killed off. The open source 'ce gcc' compiler worked but much slower graphics. This going back about 8 years ago, so maybe something new has happened.

The old pocketpc brick with the real keyboard was awesome.

I finally found a version of Pocket Quake with white screen fix, and it runs beautyfully!

It's a bit difficult to control, but it works.

You can post a link to this version here. Maybe someone is looking for it too

I still have my ipaq somewhere.
I used to love it as a pocket Spectrum emulator and it had this great Eye of the Beholder clone.
Never could get the wifi working properly on it tho'

Pls do consider posting a link up.

I would post a link, if I knew exactly where I got it from - I downloaded all versions I could find and tried them later on. Pocket Quake is easy to find, the fixed .exe comes in a PocketQuake.rar without any readme or similar.
I think it was an attachment to some forum post, but I'm not 100% sure which one it was
