  • QMB Skins

Now I'm not particularly into fancy shmancy clients, but I've been genuinely impressed with QMB if not for anything but the Cell shading. Now, I'm a cartoonist by hobby and really like the effect and would like to make some Cellshaded skins/textures (IE, single colours that are shaded purely by the CS effects) but I cannot for the life of me find the Player skin for QMB. If someone can help me out, I'll love you long time.

Also, I'm no fan of the weapon models in QMB, anyone know of any replacements?

/helped out Bank as best I could via IM

Too bad every engine has its own folder structure and skin naming convention

player_0.tga (.jpg, .png etc.) usually in /textures can be in /progs

Qrack can also do celshading and supports 16 twenty-four-bit playerskins
      maybe good for skin animations

post a link to your project, this is interesting

No project, this is all speculation so far. If interest is high enough (and if someone's willing to help), I'd be glad to go through with it.

I've seen Qrack's cellshading effect, but it just doesnt stand up to QMB's. (You CAN see the difference)

        Qrack

        QMB

To make celshade textures, almost everything would have to be one solid colour, with it's details of course.

        JSRF

As you can see, the only shading is via the cellshading method, everything else is a solid colour.

        XIII

Including weapon textures would also add to the effect.

Jet Set Radio seen with without and with effects. You can see the rather dull normal shading versus cellshading.

Finally SOMEONE understands how to explain cel shading! I really would love cel shading... If I could have completely cel shaded quakes... that'd be awesome

CelShading is the actual rendering of hard edge shadows on models, not the culled outline edge arrays (the black lines only)
in qrack try r_outline 2 , with, gl_textureless 1 and it will look like your watching the Simpsons(R) Quake.

I already have, and I just dont like the effect that Qrack presents. I dont like Qrack in general and wouldnt like my project to be done in it on top of that.

Don't you consider that rude to say to an engine author? It's ok to not like an engine, but without explanation it doesn't come across in any other way than that.

Everyone has their favorite engines and their reasons for so and least favorite engines and their reasons for so, but it is better to explain why than just say "I don't like your engine in general."

Case in point, I used to not be so fond of the DarkPlaces engine. I had a reason for disliking it and it went like this: I started it up and it was laggy, it couldn't record demos, it didn't support PNG textures (later supported) and I thought the lack of PNG texture support was rather outdated.

Rather than just merely saying I didn't like the engine I kept an open mind, I eventually ended up talking to LordHavoc about some of these things and communicating what I thought would make the engine more appealing from the point of view of players similar to me and he also helped me figure out a configuration to get very high performance out of DarkPlaces (which I've shared here, as well as the replacement texture set and stocked a QRP in DP format in the textures section).

You have the right to dislike Qrack even without a reason, but it isn't very polite to say to engine author you don't like the engine without a reason.

Very true, on occasion I post my gut reaction. And my gut reaction can often change within a few minutes.

And so it is with forums, heh.
