    DarkPlaces + DPMOD EZ Installer



    I ended up getting a tour of the DarkPlaces mod last night from LordHavoc. The DarkPlaces Mod (not the engine) normally requires a gamedir, but few things require a gamedir after I have a look at them

    The DarkPlaces EZ Installer installs the DarkPlaces engine, real-time lights and a client-side gamedir-less setup of the DarkPlaces mod, meaning you can seamlessly and effortlessly connect to a server running the DPMod either in DM mode or cooperative mode.

    Download: DarkPlaces + DPMod EZ Installer 6.9 MB

    Additionally, if you already have the engine or use another operating system and therefore only need the DarkPlaces Mod files, you can download a simple .pk3 and toss in into c:\quake\id1. You do not need the following file if you install the above, as it is already included.

    These unofficial files do not include any Linux files or any QuakeC files. If you wish to have those, visit the DarKPlaces homepage for the official downloads.

    While I appreciate the effort it took to put this installer together, it's somewhat useless because both DarkPlaces and dpmod are updated very often - like, every few days...
    A signature? Oh dear.

      DarkPlaces is a mature client and I marked the build date and DPmod is no longer being developed according to LordHavoc (and hasn't been in a while, iirc) , so this meets the needs of a typical player.

      Like you said, I agree this doesn't meet the needs of a developer-type who needs the latest source code, etc. so I marked that in the download descriptions.

        Also note that if you're not including source code, then you need to link to the website.

        But you should know this already by now...

        I'd be interested in hearing about this tour that you had...

          Darkplaces is the best. It drops my ping by 10-20.
