  • Qrack optimization

    Ok r00k helped me with this before but I need help again :-/

    My computer kinda sucks. I have 512 MB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti4200 (same as r00k I think). I just reinstalled Quake and spent about an hour messing around with all the configs and stuff. I think I got most of the stuff I like but I'm having a few problems.

    First, see attached screenshot. What happened there?

    Second, I've got a lot of settings off but am using the new graphics pak. At times the video lags. Not all the time but every once in awhile. Can you tell me if there's any settings I should fix?

    Finally, in my screenshot, how do you turn off, if possible, the highlighting around my name?

      hmmmm

      I had this happen to me once, it was a texture problem, obviously. Though I cant remember if its a cvar conflict or the actual 24-bit texture was saved with an improper alpha channel.

      I just tried your config on my setup and it works fine. Maybe your textures got corrupt?

      Funny, though, cause my setup gets fubard once in awhile, while testing stuff and i keep creating NEW quake folders with clean setups. Maybe I should make a HUGE zip with all the optimal media and offer it as a bittorrent....

      lemme clean up my cfg and post it as a reference....brb (jeez i suck at writing documentation (where's yellow))

        I just loaded up qrack again and now more textures are missing and displaying as white. Runes, dead bodies, doors, and some wall textures are all white. I've replaced all the files from my other working qrack install and it didn't change anything.

        If I completely remove my config everything works... something in my config is causing the textures to not show??

          I found the problem... or at least it fixed it...

          gl_picmip "1"

          I changed that to 0 and everything works fine now....

            Actually today I'm still getting the missing texture images. It happens on doors, the wall that surrounds large exit doors, packs on the ground, and the biosuit... yesterday it was occuring with runes as well but today runes showed fine.

            Any more ideas on this?

              My suggestion would be to check your graphics card drivers. Maybe your openGL is messed up.

                I just updated my graphics driver after the problems and it still had the problems...

                I just got Yellow's config (with all his hacks left in tact) and it appears to be fixed again now. I dunno?? lol

                        try turning off gl_loadq3models , and reload the map....
