Interesting. I knew cheatfree was flawed, I just wasn't sure how. I guess in that perspective it doesn't matter too much anyway.

There have been nightly 4v4 games going on quake.crmod.com for a few weeks(probably longer, but I've only been playing for a few weeks ), this is what sparked my interest in using a new client.

Edit: R00k, do you have any thoughts, or ideas, in regards to a smooth transition from proquake to a new client for "cheat-free" DM players?

Well, basically to be cheatfree compatible, the server and the client need the same exe. Simply pluggin security.dll into another client and all the source functions doesnt make them compatible because they would have different crc results. So if Qrack or DP became CheatFree, ProQuake wouldnt be compatible.

So essentially if a QRack server was cheatfree, the client would have to be qrack.

Would it make more sense to implement cheat protection into a new CR type mod?

Maybe I should just try to get more games on non cheatfree servers...on another note what are your thoughts on creating an all purpose mod? Expanding CAx to be a swiss army knife of mods?

Actually, "of all places", RuneQuake has a crmod-like match mode. Hmm, maybe ask Slot Zero for such modification, or use his source to code your own. Or pay JPG $1000 to license his source as he did for an off shoot of clanring ctf ala clan DO.

If u want a dm mod that is cheatfree for qrack/joequake/darkplaces/fuh/fte/ etc... then hmm maybe pick better players for that 4 on 4.

As for the masses, its possible to make a new crmod. But to make it completely anti-cheat? That's to the winner of the Nobel Prize!

Of course from where I stand I would like to see more of an ezQuake type client, or atleast some of the same features - on a cheatfree server. Here are some features that I would like to see:
Yeah ProQuake is old; ironically there is no NQ client that I feel is altogether "better."

JoeQuake. No loc support, but has a number of nice features like scoreboard pings; the current build of JoeQuake 0.15 likes to crash if you record a demo on a server (but build 1149 didn't). Has software and Linux builds. Within a couple of rock throws of being universally Quake compatible due to Jozsef's stubborness which I once didn't understand. I feel a couple of the default settings in JoeQuake 0.15 are wrong (cfg_savevars 0! Noooo!)

Qrack. Better than JoeQuake graphically in many ways; no software (non-GL) builds means it can never be the sole "go to" engine because some people must use WinQuake style clients. Less "Quake" compatible than JoeQuake because some commands have been removed or changed. Rook has done a super-job with Qrack.

DarkPlaces. Much, much easier to recommend as a deathmatch engine thanks to many great changes implemented by LordHavoc. No software (non-GL) builds means it can never be the sole "go to" engine. Least universally "Quake-compatible" engine, but was never intended to be so. It is also currently a bit of an effort to get it setup properly, but that will change.

Sigh -- no universally better engine than ProQuake in all ways --- yet

However, the one nice thing about ProQuake is that it is easy to setup -- sort of the opposite of the sheer complexity of some of the Quakeworld clients out there.

Hehe, ProQuake is ugly and all the other engines are better graphically and in many other ways as well. But, I use ProQuake because the appearance of the graphics fades into my subconscious in any good game :d
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...
