So I searched & worked a lot for a decent Quake engine that runs on Linux successfully (that means I can listen to music at the same time...
).
I discovered Qudos' sources at http://qudos.quakedev.com/linux/quake1/ and built qrack from them. Now I am totally astonished by the speed. At 1280x1024x32 and "old" settings I get about 300fps in timedemo demo1. I cannot remember having such highspeeds ever before. Darkplaces totally sucks in comparison (I did not tweak the config for "old" though), something around 150fps. Ha!
Even though I would prefer Fitzquake or aguirRe's glquake for my Singleplayer needs, I think I can settle with qrack. :d
I think Qudos had aguirRe's glquake and also Joequake sources for Linux once, but I don't know if they were with SDL too.
