  • QRACK + Vista = no

QRACK doesn't seem to be working on Vista (Ultimate)
    It pukes of unknown causes:

    I've tried 1.5 1.6 and 1.8, none worked.
I've also tried DP and glpro, both of those worked.

    Do something R00k!

PS NO VISTA HATERS/LINUX FANBOYS(goes double for you C*S )

well qrack is compiled with older msvc v6.0 so its possible that it needs to be recompiled with a newer version to work on Vista.

Doubt that's it.. 1.60 is my own and I compile with VC7, I'd try with VC8 but I don't have it

It shouldn't be the compiler. DarkPlaces and ProQuake work fine on my Vista machine so far and both engines are MSVC6. This is probably also true of 2/3 of the software out there.

My Vista computer is a laptop so I don't play much Quake on it. I'll have to load up Qrack and JoeQuake and see if they work.

Vista is the worst operating system ever.

I will. I trying Qrack and JoeQuake and post the results.

Since it is a laptop, I do very little Quake on it, which is why I haven't tried Qrack or JoeQuake on it. I mostly loaded ProQuake to see if the ProQuake Launcher works on Vista (flawlessly) and to see what DarkPlaces FPS was on a faster video card.

http://www.gamekeep.net/downloads/quake/ (I get old Qrack builds here)

Qrack 1.80 - black screen and crash

Qrack 1.70 - black screen and crash

Qrack 1.60 - black screen and crash

Qrack 1.54 - black screen and crash

              JoeQuake 0.14 - runs fine

              JoeQuake 0.15 - runs fine

I thought if I started going way back in time that the Qrack builds would work, but I couldn't get any of them to run.

Note: I am pretty certain DarkPlaces Windows releases are compiled with MSVC6; that's what the build file with DarkPlaces is in.

Alright, I went WAY back in time:

              JoeQuake 0.13 - runs fine

JoeQuake 0.13 is compiled with MSVC6, right?

Here is the JoeQuake 0.13 source code: http://www.gamekeep.net/downloads/qu....13-source.zip

vista will be good when the service packs come out but till then dont use it or you can get a program to run windows xp(or any os) in the backround and still be able to play quake

also qrack will work for my bro on vitsa but i have no specs on what hes using

Think he uses GCC and compiles from his Linux machine, actually.

16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

That makes more sense since LH isn't a fan of Windows and I've read he uses WINE when necessary.

Somehow I think this has to do with Qrack's decal system

R00k if you don't have Vista MSN me sometime and I'll help you test it

If true, you could prove that in 5 seconds:

That's "JoeQuake Pro" ... the Qrack prior to adding extra effects into the engine. If that runs on your system, ...

JoeQuake Pro runs on my Vista laptop.

/JoeQuake Pro is a very old "Qrack", prior to the name change.

well, I could do a side by side DIFF adding features until it breaks...
Actually I was thinking it had to do with the virtual memory pool.
