RG what version do u have? Stung what version do u have?
Could it be a conflict with drivers? I dont have Vista so I cant fully test.

I usually use my own RGQrack which is based off 1.60.
              I got www.quakeone.com/qrack/qrack183beta.zip for this.

              Both work

                Hey Stung, hold up.

I'm gonna try Qrack on my Vista notebook (I'm confident it will work.)

Are you sure you aren't chasing the wrong problem? Like blaming Vista, when it could be video card drivers or the video card itself?

Remember, almost ANYTHING runs GL ProQuake. I have met plenty of machines that will run GL Pro, but not Qrack and/or DarkPlaces.

I'm just saying, if it works for RocketGuy under Vista then perhaps it isn't Vista.

Let's start with the magic questions:

                1. Does GL Pro run?
                2. What video card does this machine have?
                3. Is it a notebook (uh oh! Intel Integrated Media controller) or a desktop?

/Yeah, everyone rushes to blame Vista and I don't like Vista either but let's not rush to conclusions. EFESS told me GL ProQuake wouldn't run on Vista, and it runs just fine on my Vista notebook.

Qrack worked on my uncle's vista machine, although the Vista he had was some special beta Vista Microsoft sent him and I believe the Qrack verion was 1.6 or 1.7

Baker: point taken. To answer your questions, Glproquake does NOT work (video rendering problems--I believe oberlin and others have the same problem where effects don't entirely disintegrate and the screen becomes a collection of small squares), but Glqrack180vista.exe does work. 183beta doesnt, and 180 regular doesn't. I was assuming that the 183beta changes could be applied to glqrack180vista.exe; is my thinking flawed?

Also, let's call Vista what it is--Windows 3.1 service pack 2 (JOKE, NOT LITERAL, ETC)

I use Radeon ATI x1300 256mb with the catalyst drivers as installed by Dell. It's desktop with half-height hardware. (Inspiron or whatever)

Also, nice work, first time I've used Qrack. Quick conceptual question: what is the point of cl_truelightning? When enabled, I feel like I'm trying to quakeworld shaft in netquake. Feels entirely weird to me. Just curious, not criticizing.

And who the HELL referred me to an admin. I just noticed I had a referral.

RocketGuy found the bug in v1.80, well it wasnt really a bug, there was a FREE command clearing out some area of unused data. For 1.80vista I just commented out the call to that. *poof* vista works with qrack. In 1.83 I have added code to determine the version of the OS, and using a condition freeing that portion of memory. So, basically maybe since Vista comes in several flavors, the version isnt getting correctly identified.
I meant to ask, you and RocketGuy, what version of VISTA you had so I could dig up some more info.
Here's the code i'm using for this
                          WinVISTA = WinNT && (vinfo.dwMajorVersion == 6) && (vinfo.dwMinorVersion == 0);

cl_truelighting, varies the latency of the shaft. Usually, you send your "aim" angles to the server, the server replies and the client then passes back to the portion of code that updates the shaft beam(your shaft is now dependant on your ping). cl_truelightning sends the update of your aim directly to the beam code, so there isnt any latency. Now the downfall of this is that the server still has the latency. So if u turn and hit an enemy, you really arent hitting them until the server gets the message.
