  • New water effects for Darkplaces

    Dear all,

I noticed, that Darkplaces is quite popular in this forum.
And due to the fact I also LOVE this Engine, I wanted to post
a Link to another Forum, which you maybe also know.

Urre and Zombie developed new unbelievable water effects for Darkplaces and called it:
    Pretty Water! v0.1
    http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic...2a8a131ac93253
(If it is not allowed to post links to there, administrator, please delete. I am sorry)

In case you didnt know about it, it is a MUST TRY / SEE.

The water is extremely realistic looking (reflexions, etc.):
Read more details there and be sure to download it and test it.
(Dont understand me wrong, I dont want to advertising for anything.
I just want you to share this big new development and enjoy it like i do !
It is a big step forward regarding the "whooow effect")

Here are 3 screenshots taken from inside3D
    .
Try it in map e1m4 for example to quickly see the new effect. (in the big pond near the beginning)
    .

    Regards,
    Seven

This is a free speech forum and almost entirely unmoderated (except illegal stuff, excessive abuse towards others, etc.).

Links/information to things people have made for Quake are encouraged (of course). :d

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

can't seem to get this pk3 working. I put it in id1, get the newest dp beta, and exec water.cfg and I see no reflections and the water is REALLY hard to see. I then removed my textures folder thinking that custom textures might ruin it but that's not the case. Help?

            hopefully...

I read in another forum, that the NEWEST beta (from 6th and 10th october) changed some codes. Especially the ones, related to this Pretty Water Patch.

            Solution:
If you pick the last stable version from Darkplaces (darkplacesengine20070928.zip), its just one week "older".
            It works.

I play with this last stable version, and am extremely happy with it.
            Hope this helps.

short video showing the reflective water (and synq and a funny wallhack feature when you don't have the map)

                  Hi sniper,

thank you for this "real short" (5min.) movie
It shows me, that you also like playing around with the new water effects (just like me).
Though the water seems a lot to "clean" (almost drinking water), which does not
quite fit in the dirty Quake world, the effects are beautiful !!
