  • In-Game Video Mode Changing in Unofficial ProQuake 3.81

I've looked at the implementation of in-game video mode changing in Qrack and FitzQuake and actually have it working in ProQuake.

It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

Well, it's not done yet but 2 or 3 outstanding issues remain, but only 1 that will be challenging (or maybe not).

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Switching BPP on the fly requires reloading all the current textures. Which can be a bit of a pain. I left it out as most would use 32bit.

        Yeah, that's the 1 challenge.

At first I thought about avoid that issue, but decided I'm going to confront it head on.

There is a thread on it and the download has a changelog you can read:

Based on looking thru the code FitzQuake uses, it looks to me like in FitzQuake 0.70 all of the texture loading was centralized around TexMgr_LoadImage (and remove GL_LoadTexture) and FitzQuake basically can flush textures as a result and reload them.

What I am going to try is implement just the new texture loading/unloading aspect of FitzQuake, since I don't want any rendering/lighting changes whatsoever.

If this works, I should also be able to effectively change gamma in a way that looks identical to the ProQuake -gamma command parameter.

Yes, this is proving to be a bit of a pain ...

Textures, player skins, lightmaps, particles, skytextures, ...

            Heheheheh

But once it's done, it doesn't need to be done again. But definitely a pain! (scale of 1 to 10, where 5 is difficult: 6.5)

The proquake gamma does differ from the glproquakes , I always wondered if that could be done thanks for the work Baker.
