  • GLQuake build for Linux.

I was surfing the web and I came across this. I know many were asking for it. Here is my contribution, I do not know if this was posted here before. But if not, here it is:

    GLQuake for Linux:

There is Fitzquake SDL Port with is vastly superior to GLQuake and runs fantastically on Linux.

I do not know much technicalities about it.. ..at that time there were numerous posters asking for it and I stumbled across this site and was glad I could provide something for them to play Quake with.

It looks fancy but by default it mods the game even more than Darkplaces. You walk slower if you are low on health for example. Pretty idiotic.

                w00t

Pretty idiotic ? If we were in MP, you would have suffer a lot for that :-)

For the next release, all, no, most of the modifications will be "disablable" if you add the -legacy switch to the command line. This way you would have 3 modes, classic, default, and full weirdness with the -quore switch. Hope it could satisfy everyone.

I have tried different clients, JoeQuake, TyrQuake, FTE, ezQuake, there's always pros and cons, it's a matter of taste.

Modifications such as this really should be off by default, don't you think? It's nice to have them for those who want them, though.

You must be right, on the other hand, I like the idea of experiencing something new from the beginning, like if it was a totally new game.

That's not "like if", it IS a different game. A Quake mod is not Quake. And this is a pretty clear case (unlike arguing over QW physics in singleplayer for example).
