  • Telejano and mouselook

Hey gang, just stopped in for a minute to see if anyone here can help me.

I've been playing around with the various source engines lately, and I've developed a liking for three of them: DarkPlaces, Qrack, and Telejano. While the first two work just fine, however, I'm having problems with mouselook in Telejano. Not only can I not mouselook up/down whatsoever (although the game still recognizes using the mouse to turn left/right and the mouse buttons themselves), but I cannot even change the inversion settings.

So, does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this? I think it goes without saying that Quake without mouselook just ain't gonna fly, but I'm too fond of Telejano to just drop it.

Type +mlook in the console to turn on mouselook.

/DarkPlaces and Qrack have it on by default. I really think any custom engine should at least have mouse look in the menu because this is the #1 Quake question from anyone who loads up Quake for the first time.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that adding +mlook to the console does not work either. Were it so simple...

Assuming you have the last version of Telejano, Press ESC

Go Options -> Misc -> Mouse Look ON/OFF

No idea what the cvar name is though, but mouse look IS in the menu (it's just a little buried).

Also no good. The option is there--and set to ON by default--but it has no effect. When set to OFF, pressing forwards or back on the mouse will cause you to move forward or backwards; when set to ON, pressing forwards or back doesn't do anything.

Hmmm. I installed Telejano on a machine that didn't have it loaded to test out your problem so it was a clean install and the mouse on/off thing worked for me.

In fact mouse look was on by default.

It is perplexing. I've tested a half dozen clients, and all of them work just fine. Reinstalling Telejano does not resolve the issue, either.

To make things really interesting, at one point the mouselook did kick in. I can't say why, I was just fiddling with unrelated visual and audio settings, but moments later it stopped working again.

hehehe i tried that client once, i dident have that problem but what i did do was turned the fog all the way up and messed with the colors, and then every secret door and such was invisable so on start i could see the stairs to the shubs pit, i also had to stop using it because the fog color hurt my eyes and i couldent set i back to norm...i also had low fps :/

Well, I've had an interesting development. I figured out how to get mouselook to work, but I still cannot invert it. Now here's the kicker: if at any point in time you try to change the inversion via the menu option, mouselook will never work again, not even if you use the in_mlook command.

So now I can at least play with Telejano. It just means there's a learning curve each time I start, and I have to detox myself afterwards by playing with DarkPlaces or Qrack to adjust back to my accustomed inversion.

I'm curious, though. Those of you who've used Telejano in the past and have had no problem with mouselook... were you using it inverted?

                    nope just the usual
                    m1 fire
                    m2 hook
                    mwu change next
                    mwd change previous.

                        umm.. it wont let me

and i just found that the thing wont let me have mlook now

:///// i dont really use it anyways because i need to put it in window and then i all the words are big like they all dont fit on screen, the lists

i suggest qrack as it is easy to handle and doesent do screwy things... most of the time that is

                          For the win!

So it's not just me, there's a problem with Telejano itself and inversion. Not sure whether that makes me more or less relieved...

Well, I'm out of ideas. Since the issue's on the client's end I've poked around in what files I can in search of the problem, but no such luck. Short of the original developer, I don't know of anyone who can fix this--which sucks, because I hate letting Telejano go...

                            *sigh*

I spent a minute checking this out and it is easily solved:

Type m_pitch -0.022 in the console. Then it will work.

Apparently the "invert mouse" option in the Telejano menu is bugged and sets m_pitch to 0 which disables vertical mouse aim entirely.

The correct m_pitch is 0.022 for regular mouse look and -0.022 for inverted mouse.
