  • Quake all White in Vista

Is there a way to fix the all-white Quake problem? I'm sure someone else must have seen it. It's like the textures don't get loaded and you can see lighting but no textures. Kind of cool, but I don't want to play like this forever. My XP installation died so I have been urgently trying to make it work in Vista.

I really REALLY like my version of GLProQuake. I think it's 3.95 or something like that. Anyway, all my GLProQuake versions give me the white texture problem. If I run the original GLQuake, that works fine for some reason. So, I'm assuming I need to turn off some ProQuake visual feature to make things work ok. Any ideas?

Even without upgrading you should be able to fix the problem by adding -no8bit to the command line.

The problem is that your video card is lying to ProQuake telling it that it supports the 8 bit palette texture OpenGL extension when it doesn't. There isn't a speed difference between the two, so in the latest update I made -no8bit the default since this has evolved to be a somewhat common problem.

[ProQuake 3.99x doesn't have the all white screen problem.]

Just use -no8bit in your command line and that will more than likely solve the problem. I have to use -no8bit as well, otherwise everything is white.

That worked out nicely. Thanks for the help! You both have honorary Bizarro powers.

This happens to me on my Nvidia Geforce 8800gt with PQ3.99 on Windows XP.
It's possibly a driver issue not Vista. -no8bit works for me too. It's not just ProQuake though, seems it happens to me for stock GLQuake and Tyr-Quake.
But not BJPQuake or FitzQuake, etc...
