  • Problems with Darkplaces

Today I installed the Steam version of Quake 1 and downloaded and extracted Darkplaces into the same directory. I was able to open Darkplaces and play the game without any interruptions. However, when I tried to change video settings (like resolution, anti-aliasing, and other features), the game would instantly freeze after I click "Apply" and eventually crash to the desktop. I have an ATI 4870 video card and I'm running Vista 64-bit. I can change other settings in the main menu, but anything in video settings is apparently off-limits. Is there some sort of driver incompatibility problem going on? I would like to play this game in 1680x1050 resolution if at all possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Update: I e-mailed the developer of the source port and he told me that this is a known issue that will be resolved in the next build release.

at the moment maybe you can use the commandline parameter to override this issue to get the resolution you want:
        darkplaces.exe -width 1680
