  • wqpro399 crashes in crctf

    Hello.

I've been playing RuneQuake (no h8rade plz) with WinProQuake with no problem. Now when I go to crctf.clanhdz.com to play 3wave, the program crashes when the grapple shoots out.

The program was crashing for me before when the command 'weapons-toggle' was excuted. It'd say 'Status Bar Set', hang up, then process hangs.

Only had these problems since I started using WQPro399.exe. I was using some old 1.5 version of proquake before I think.

Everything works fine in Qrack, glpro399. No clue what's going on.

Super wild guess without looking or knowing any facts except what you said ...

I wonder what happens in WinQuake if the centerprint has invalid coordinates? Like coordinates incompatible with 320 x 240 resolution?

This uneducated guess is just speculation that maybe the version of CRCTF on HDZ does a HUD with coordinates that are invalid for WinQuake in low resolutions? I know GLQuake does bounds checking on centerprint, I'll have to see if WinQuake does or doesn't.

    1. What resolution are you using?
    2. If you are using a low resolution, can you up the resolution to say 1024 x 768 and try connecting to the server.
    3. I assume you can connect to the RuM CRCTF server without crashing? Or not?

Sometime today I'll try to connect to it with wqpro399 and see what happens ..

    /End unfounded guess

I used wqpro399 and connected to crctf.clanhdz.com in 320x240 resolution.

No crash. Set practice mode and used the Threewave hook with no problems and also used the +hook style hook with no problems.

weapons-toggle didn't appear to be an alias, it said unknown command and I never saw the message "Status bar set".

Did you clean connect or did you play some RuneQuake first? Do you have weapons-toggle bound to a key? It might have executed some strange impulse that CRCTF didn't like, like an unsupported experimental HUD.

Here is why I ask ...

Quake permanent keeps aliases during a session. What I mean is that when you start Quake, every alias that any server sets will remain until you exit Quake ... weapons-toggle is a RuneQuake alias and not a CRCTF alias so maybe some impulse conflict is occurring.

I'd try clean connecting to CRCTF and see if the problem occurs again.

/The FuhQuake or ZQuake Quakeworld clients introduced a great idea that no one has done with NetQuake where server aliases are stored sent and those specific aliases are cleared when you disconnect from a server.

Interesting, the CTF hud bar is impulse 70 to turn off/on and 71-81 to adjust the height. "weapons-toggles" is impulse 74 on RuneQuake servers. I tried wqpro 3.90 and 3.99 and glpro3.90 and 3.99 and still no crash, though I was there last night and kept seeing your client crash/laggout Somehow this sounds vaguely familiar from a TF thread i read years ago.. hmm.

Side note: the server will "scan" for a "known" hacked-client/bot for the 1st 20 seconds a player connects. If a player lags out during this initial scan then a false positive maybe displayed. Most clients are validated in the 1st 5 seconds, but it can happen on rare occasions. So, I have made the scanner more robust, so if you lagout during the botscan the server will detect your lag before it thinks you failed the scan.

Sorry. For the previous post. I don't do well with THC.

Alright. Just got up not long ago and tried things out....

I connected straight to the hdzcrctf with wqpro399. Default res = 320x200. I can get into the game by typing red but when I grapple, game locks, executable crashes.

I connect back to the server with wqpro, default res, game crashes after I type red at the console and toggle the console away. Firefox crashes.

I load it back up, go to shmack, login to play, status bar where the equipment info, frags, and such flashes from the normal status to blank a couple times, I connect to hdzcrctf, and I can get in game but jumping makes the game crash.

I decide to check glpro399 and I can lower the graphics to 320x200 (defaults to 800x600) and it works perfect. I can raised the res in wqpro to 1024x768 and my frame rate goes to shit. 800x600 some lost of frame rate but not real bad. Everything works fine in wqpro399 at 1024x768 & 800x600 (minus performance issue).

But yeah, I can use whatever on RuM crctf without a problem. I'm pinging 13-33 there too. Wish it worked

*EDIT* Alright turds. I dunno wtf but I just went back to hdzcrctf. I turned off the status bar with impulse 70, bound impulse 71 to f6, i72 to f7, i73 to f8. I joined red. Everything fine. f6, I can see the status bar and everything is fine. f7 moved the status bar to the area where it has the quake marine face and the health number and such. the bar kept blinking between the stock graphic bar and the crctf flag status bar. f8 crashed the hell out of the client.

Do I just need to always do impulse 71 once I connect to play crctf?
