qrack strange water platform

  • qrack strange water platform

    for sometime now i have noticed that on e4m7 the 1st raised platform (next to the ring of shadows) you come to has water effects on it like its submerged underwater, but water is no where in sight.

        yeah, I noticed its on the same level as the water that's in the other area...but as the plat raises the caustics fade off. I've seen this happen in a lot of maps, that's part of the reason I have gl_caustics "0"

          I remember the old JoeQuake (which QRack is partially based on) used a "waterline" method for rendering caustics. Anything above the waterline didn't have them, anything below it did. Might be a hangover from that code.

          Caustics above water sure can look weird in a game, but they do occur very regularly in the real world.

            yea its the water caustics and i yea i dont remember joequake doing that

              I personally think caustics look sorta silly unless its in water without the color blue fog. it just seems ridiculous to be in lava and slime. I prefer just having the fog and that's it. its still a very nice effect nonetheless.

                I have noticed this for maps like CTF1, the quad secret door would display caustics. I have fixed this in 1.92-soon to be released...

                Slime maybe, if the sludge was watered down a bit (i like to think of a toxic waste pit). But lava, ya might be a bit overkill.
