  • Darkplaces- how to run mission packs?

Just installed Darkplaces and have Quake operating properly, but I'm terribly confused as to how you're supposed to operate the expansions/mission packs (Dissolution of Eternity and Scourge of Armagon). I have all the necessary paks and files, and I've put them in their respective folders ("rogue" and "hipnotic", both with "id1" folders inside of them, and the paks from the games. All I've found thus far is stuff about directories (ie: -quake -game rogue -game hipnotic), and the like, but have no idea where to put them.

Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated.

    Thanks.

    EDIT:

I have searched the forums a bit more thoroughly and have since created shortcuts for myself that have the commands added onto the end to run the mission packs (ie: "C:\Program Files\Quake\Darkplaces.exe" -hipnotic)... But when I start the game, it comes up with the regular demo, which I'm assuming is normal, as it shows, when I open the console, that it's the "hipnotic" version. However, I still can't figure out what I need to do to begin that mission pack rather than start a game of regular Quake. Are there console commands required to start the game?

That sounds wrong - both rogue and hipnotic have their own demos (and you start a new game exactly the same way you do with regular Quake). DP has a built-in mod browser (if memory serves it's in the options menu) so maybe try using that instead of the shortcuts?

Ok... Well I looked at that, and I tried it, but it didn't do anything... It gave me a loading bar at the bottom of the screen but ran the same demo. I tried just starting the game, but that didn't work. What all do I need to have in the expansion's folders? Should I just toss everything in there?

      EDIT:

Nope, that didn't work... I put everything that I have from my game in the "rogue" folder, still didn't do anything. I may just have to buy them again off Steam. I had the games in the past (a LONG time ago), so I just downloaded them off the internet.

      EDIT:

I tried loading the first map using "map r1m1" (pretty sure that's it), and it couldn't find the map, nor could it find autoexec.exe... :S

I'm under the impression that all I need are the PAK files... Am I wrong?

you usually need two switches for mission packs. Such as "-hipnotic" and "-game hipnotic".

-hipnotic is normally enough on it's own unless the engine author has removed support for it; otherwise the code to load the Hipnotic mission pack correctly will still be called if just -hipnotic is used.

From the symptoms it sounds as though you might have things set up wrong. Can you confirm that under your Quake folder you have subfolders called "ID1", "rogue" and "hipnotic", and under "ID1" you have "pak0.pak" (about 17 MB) and "pak1.pak" (about 33 MB), under "rogue" you have a "pak0.pak" (about 36 MB), and under "hipnotic" you also have a "pak0.pak" (about 34 MB)?

That is wrong. They have to be on the same level and the files need to be inside their root.

              Quake\
              -id1\
              -rogue\
              -hipnotic\

And inside those are directly the pak files. Then just use -hipnotic or -rogue, no need for the -game switch for the official mission packs.

I didn't... I had "ID1" in each of the mission pack folders, so "rogue\id1\", and the same with the other. I guess that's what was screwed up.

Yep... That was the problem... All fixed and works great now. Thanks guys.
