  • Baker: D3DPro4 and GLPro4 issues

    Hey Baker, howsit?

Just wanted to relay a couple of issues I'm having with both of the versions of Proquake 4.00, which is pretty damn cool for the record.

D3Dpro4 has no Video Options selectability in console, but a ghost option is still present under advanced options. If you click it, it crashes the game.

With that said, Proquake 4 defaults me to 85Hz refreshrate, in D3Dpro, despite vid_refreshrate being set at 60.
Of course, without a Video Options menu in D3D pro (my preferred mode of playing), I cant adjust the video settings and therefore can't play.

Hope you can help me out.

    Edit: Deleted Glpro issues.

Also, not sure why it defaults to 85 Hz. I'll do about anything to get a D3Dpro that defaults to 60Hz.

d3dpro falls solidly in the unsupported category. Maybe next time I update D3DPro, I'll take a look at the issue. But I have too many bigger fish going on -- things that will ultimately make a big difference -- at the present to look at this in a timely manner.

But what you can do that may work is this:

    Older ProQuake versions: File Listing

There are downloads for d3dpro prior to the addition of video mode switch for the GL version. I don't remember how those versions got or set the Hz, but these older versions have names like:

    http://quakeone.com/proquake/src_old...roquake382.zip
    http://quakeone.com/proquake/src_old...roquake383.zip
    http://quakeone.com/proquake/src_old...roquake384.zip

I think the last time you were around, you used version 3.80. Either way, hopefully one of those will satisfy you in the mean time.

Add: You might also consider DirectQ, it is under DarkPlaces and above the Quake Injector logos at the bottom of the home page.

DirectQ is native Direct3D by MH. It is NAT-fixed, but doesn't have ping in scoreboard or loc support (or ip:port connecting, you'd need to do "port 26001; connect rage.quakeone.com for a non-26000) but other than that should measure up quite well to ProQuake (doesn't have pq_teamscores or ProQuake aim either but may have a DarkPlaces-like improved "normal aim" and being on the receiving end of Monster several times at Rocket Arena that more than suffices). Unsure of whether DirectQ has the pq_smoothcam effect.

I'm just detailing this stuff because I know you are picky as hell. But if you like the rest of the DirectQ engine and it works great for you, well ... we ought to find out.

DirectQ is far better performance and stability-wise versus d3dpro

DirectQ actually should support .loc files and connect ip:port in the latest versions. One thing it doesn't support is refresh-rate changing; it will always run at the same refresh rate as your Windows desktop. This may be enough for you or it may not.

Baker, I've noticed that, while running single player with glpro400, if my pq_maxfps is higher than ~150 there's very noticeable stuttering while going up stairs. Qrack doesn't have this issue; do you know what's going on here?

Also, there seems to be no link to the proquake site from the main page of quakeone.com
