  • Ubuntu 9.10 + Qrack 1.60

So i finally figured out how to semi-compile Qrack 1.60 in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, yet I have no sound, and it crashes randomly (usually after 3-7 minutes of playing on speaknow... whenever I run a PLAYDEMO DEMO2 it plays thru the demo 100% however when I run a TIMEDEMO DEMO2 it crashes to the terminal with the following error...

    Code:
    [/C]timedemo demo2
    Playing demo from demo2.dem

I'm not to Compiler savvy and im just starting to feel comfortable smashing buttons in Linux...

Quake itself plays awesome with around 1000+ FPS, I do not have sound however AT ALL (In Quake) and all explosions and sparks are black?

I'm kind of hell bent on using Qrack. Can someone help me fix these few problems or perhaps lead me in the right direction?

    Thanks guys/gals/its

Despite my love for Qrack, I've decided to switch over to Darkplaces (At least while I use Ubuntu Linux).

Darkplaces was very easy to get up and running, I downloaded it from the DarkPlaces website, extracted the Linux binary into my Quake folder and double-clicked *POOF* Instant Quake.

I'd really like to see Qrack in its current state running on Linux but seems R00k is pretty busy with other things. Qrack is still better personally speaking.

So for anyone wanting a solid updated Quake engine for Linux check out DarkPlaces! The link can be found on this very website just do some searching!

What's even more fun is to fire up darkplaces, then type gamedir qrack.
Sometimes you gotta tweak the vid_conwidth & vid_conheight values but properly configured DP can look clean and simple. DP is very advanced and stable, with tons of advancements over Qrack, to the point it makes Qrack look like glQuake. But there are minor quirks to DP that would need attending to before I could use it full-time. Though, I have been tinkering with DP source code to learn its possibilities
