There's a directX version of JoeQuake, instead of an openGL version.
Qrack is knee deep in openGL, and doesnt cleanly port to directX using the directX wrapper that JQ does.
I could easily rip out some features in Qrack, i suppose and port it to DirectX, but this wouldnt guarantee that the DirectX vrsion would even run faster.
Qrack was a fork from JoeQuake 0.14; JoeQuake had 3 revisions after that.
Qrack does a ton of things right that JoeQuake doesn't, just from R00k further extending the ProQuake-ization of the engine.
For instance, connect to a server without the map with JoeQuake and JoeQuake will disconnect you. ProQuake 3.50 would let you stay connected without the map and ask for where to get it.
Also JoeQuake does not have the console backscroll fixed.
JoeQuake also, as far as I recall, is missing some QMB particles that R00k added to Qrack.
But there are some features and niceties here and there that Qrack doesn't have. But they are hard to explain. Unless R00k ripped the video capture code from JoeQuake 1829, Qrack's AVI capture is more likely to make the sound all jerky in an AVI. And JoeQuake's menu is, in my opinion, a bit easier to setup.
Then again, JoeQuake doesn't save cvars to config by default. And doesn't have video mode switch in-game.
Many subtle differences.

From an end users perspective the only difference seems to be that directX doesn't run on anything except Windows. I know about wine but seriously...
(Nothing against your engine MH, I like it and I'm also using Windows quite often. Just a serious question.)
Sometimes OpenGL drivers are bad or something is wrong. The DirectX build is Plan B.
I could want to mess around for hours on end updating drivers or trying to figure out why my OpenGL drivers aren't working for my video card, or I could just load up the DirectX version and just play.
There are quite a few ProQuake users that are using something other than the GL version for various reasons. People just want it to work, they don't really care how it happens.
