  • Trouble with new pc and DarkPlaces...

    Hello good folks.

Until recently I've had a Dell Precision M6400, and just bought an Asus G73JH. All was jolly good on the old pc, I could play even the most demanding Quake 1 maps just fine in DarkPlaces, no problems whatsoever. And all seemed ok at first with the new one, but I started noticing some slight framerate drops in some maps (HIP1M5, for instance). I decided to check if this was just a one time occurance or if there was indeed something wrong, so I fired up one of my favorite maps "The Parallel Worlds" (digs04, very large map) and sure enough, it was a slideshow.
I also tested the map and others where I had experienced trouble with FitzQuake, and they ran fine.

I don't know what causes this but it's pretty annoying considering I'm working on a singleplayer map and DarkPlaces is my prefered mod, and was hoping someone here would know a fix.

    Thanks.

Yes, it's true and it doesn't depend on hardware. There are many other maps that have this problem. It's not so much a problem of fps drop, but horrible chopiness.
The only thing I can advice (which helps with some maps) is to use the previous official release. It was 20090709 or something like that. Again, it may, but also may not fix the problem.

Just a small nitpick, Darkplaces is an engine, not a mod. DPMOD is a mod.

I would suggest you go to the darkplaces IRC channel, #darkplaces on irc.anynet.org, and ask there about the problem.

Mibbit.com - Easy and fast Webchat is a web-irc client that works pretty well. You just click on "Server" and enter irc.anynet.org, and in "Channel" you enter #darkplaces (including the hash). You should arrive in the darkplaces engine development channel.

MaraST78: That worked as a charm, cheers!

golden_boy: I know the difference between an engine and a mod (well basics of it anyway), but when I went to the DarkPlaces homepage, it seemed to refer to it as a mod alot so I just went with that. I see now that I did overlook some stuff however...
