  • DarkPlaces issue with Plasma Gun in MP2

    Dear all,

    I stumbled over an issue, for which I dont know the origin.
    Maybe its DarkPlaces itself or my wired Quake setup.

    So I want to ask for your help.

    All you need is:
    - DarkPlaces
    - Mission Pack 2 (from Rogue)

    Please, start mission pack 2 (darkplaces.exe -rogue)and enter any map you want
    (best to try: "map r1m2")
    Then enter "impulse 9" in console and choose your new plasma gun.
    Now shoot !

    What does the plasma ball do ?
    Does it stuck right in the air, where you shot it ?
    Try it different times and walk around.
    In my Quake, the plasma ball will not fly till it hits a wall or an enemy,
    but simply stick in the air. The plasma ball is rotating, but doesnt move/fly.
    This happens 80%. Only sometime it acts normal and flies towards a wall/enemy
    and explodes at impact.

    Please tell me, if the Plasma Gun works for you in DarkPlaces.

    I really like DP when it works, for a simple reason - it plays better than anything else. But it just doesn't work sometimes as it should. So yes, same problem here. (autobuild from 2010/10/5).

      You should really tell this sort of stuff to the developers. Not just the darkplaces devs, but a lot of other things' devs as well. They all hang out on IRC. You can just go and talk to them.

      Yeah, even to me. Not that anyone would want that.

          I wrote it LH already, but no reaction yet. He is a busy man !
          Just wanted to clarify if someone else have the same prob,
          or if its just me with my wired setup...

            this plasma gun bug is not only your problem. i've noticed it a few weeks ago while testing my effectinfo.txt. the weird part is that there's no logic in this strange behaviour. sometimes the plasma gun works, sometimes not. i have a short list of darkplaces bugs, but i didn't send it to lord havoc yet. it seems i can leave out this particular bug.

              I wrote to LH about something else (shadows related) and I got the answer after few days, so be patient.

                I had a similar problem with the 'disc' mod (from the author of KQP) It flys off but doesn't bounce off the walls, just gets caught on the first wall it hits and spazzes out until it teleports back.

                odd thing is that the disc in kqp works in dp but the disc mod on its own in dp doesn't.

                obviously if you know not of these mods; all i've done is give you some useless trivia. However if you do have kqp and/or the disc mod it could be a related issue to said plasmagun...

                    Can confirm it isn't. Just downloaded gave it 4 boots and each had it still present.
                    If you use mods by myself or Seven - yes it will be fixed as I did a workaround and Seven also uses it in his mod.

                        Dark Places is really nice looking but I have all kinds of strange problems in it. Fiends get stuck on walls, when I go in the slime it is pitch black, sometimes I fall through floors, and sometimes just generally weird inexplicable things happen. It may because I am using an old version and should get the stuff out of SVN but I have been too lazy to setup the SVN stuff on windows so my bad.
