  • Trouble with Fitzquake

    Hi,

I'm on Windows XP. When I try to run the latest version of Fitzquake, the game runs at lightning speed! Why does it do that? With the other clients I haven't got this problem.
    How can I solve it?

    Thanks

Timer problems; Fitz still uses the buggy old timer code from the original ID Quake.

Nothing you can do to resolve it (unless you fancy modifying the code yourself). Best thing is to grab a copy of QuakeSpasm instead, which is an OS-neutral port of Fitz and has this problem resolved.

QuakeSpasm | Download QuakeSpasm software for free at SourceForge.net

(A lot you'll read about this plays up how great it is for Linux, but it also works well on Windows.)

I pushed hard for Mr. Fitz to clock-fix FitzQuake 0.85 before release. But no!

That really is an Achilles heal flaw in FitzQuake 0.85.

/But hey, I kid a bit. Metlslime is awesome and I do understand that in hindsight everyone has 20-20 vision. Odds are the next FitzQuake --- whenever that happens --- will be clocked fixed (since it is a recurring issue). And the SDL builds of FitzQuake and Quakespasm are ALL clock-fixed. All that being said, FitzQuake is awesome.

          Here's a clock-fixed Fitz for you.

Download clockfixedfitz.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Aside from making it compile with Visual C++ 2008, the only change made was the clock fix; both of these use the very same code as I've previously published here so I haven't included any code with this. The affected files are winquake.rc (all of it) and sys_win.c (the Sys_FloatTime function).
