  • Proquake bugs?

Hello. My little 10 year old cousin seems to love older games since i've always introduced them to him, so recently I've shown him quake and he loves it. So i copy and paste proquake 4.51 from my flash drive to his computer. Problem is, hes got a pretty shitty computer. I'm talking early late 90's early 2000's. So quake being quake this normally would't be a problem, but lite engines like fitzquake and proquake are all I am limited to.

But proquake has some MAD issues on his computer for some reason. If i try to run gl, it will work just fine but the moment i exit the game the whole screen blurs and starts making doubles and the only way to stop this is to shut off the computer and my uncle swears his video card drivers are up to date. If i run either direct3d its too slow. And winquake works but no matter what resolution i set it to it ALWAYS sticks to the lowest possible after i restart, in game/.cfg/command line doesn't matter.

    So...
    1. Are there more stable versions of proquake?
    2. Is there any way to get winproquake to keep the resolution i set it to.
    3. Are there any better engines out there that are close to the original besides fitz and pro that a computer with the stats of a crappy laptop(2.0??ghz pentium 4, 2GB ram, 64MB video card, winxp.) can handle?

    [EDIT]
Thanks for the reply and lol i meant to say late 1990's early 2000's but nonetheless i will try various older builds then.

I do the best I can but alas I have no early 1990s computer to test stuffs against.

The answer to #2 = no. It is a recent bug. You can use an older build of Win ProQuake like version 4.34 which doesn't have the bug:

Other versions of ProQuake, some which may work better on an older machine:

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Tried 4.34. Resolution stays and the music plays, probably the best winquake i'm going to find. Thank you.
