  • Darkplaces - Nexuiz - Xonotic.

    Hey guys
    let me understand some things.
    - Is Nexuiz project dead?
    - Is Lordhavoc working on Darkplaces only?
    - Is Xonotic a fork or (if nexuiz is dead) a Nexuiz "replacement"?
    - Will Xonotic change engine or Darkplaces will be the Xonotic engine forever?
    - When we'll have a first stable beta?

    Ia! Ia! Shubb Niggurath!

I really stopped paying attention to Nexuiz a few years ago when we pleaded with the devs in forums to have bunnyhopping / airmove standard or at least optional in the game, and they told us to go play Warsow and take a flying leap.

ROFL. They told you to go play warsow and take a flying leap? WOW, no respect for the OG's obviously.

Warsow rocks, so no problem there.

The way I understand it, xonotic is sort of a fork of the old Nexuiz that happened after the new Nexuiz for (some console) was announced.

Again the way I understand it, xonotic uses Darkplaces. What other options do they have?

I don't think this will affect Quake players/developers much. LH is continuing to develop darkplaces.

I do understand that a lot of people are very tired of being asked about this stuff, so I advise to shut up and read FAQs. ;-)

Not really. What if I demanded a grappling hook in CAx?

Gamedevs have a right to shape and mold the game according to their design.

It is no different than how R00k controls the features in CAx or LordHavoc controls the features in DarkPlaces.

The Nexuiz community abandoned the Nexuiz community (sounds weird, but it is true) after the Nexuiz trademark was sold by guy who originally came up with the idea for Nexuiz and owned the trademark (but had had little to do with the development in a very long, long time) and most of them moved to the Xonotic community.

Considering Nexuiz was about exclusively only actively developed by Divverent (I mean the hard stuff -- the QuakeC and CSQC coding) when he and a few of the other main players in Nexuiz developed went to form the Xonotic fork, it was over.

Have to agree with Baker on that. It is the teams game and project. They do have the exact idea of what they want the game to be. Some may hate their choices - however once the game release the complaints can easily be null and void. When Epic announced the complete revamp of the Hammerburst it angered some people - however once the game was released those complaints were overall gone.
Their reaction to them saying it that way - harsh and unprofessional.

Although there's one thing I do wish more devs would add to their games - MUTATORS from the Unreal Tournament games. Just allow you to edit parts of the game without having to compile a whole new mod and it's disabled for the story mode.
Oh a large fan base of the players hate how weapon "x" does FAR too much radial damage when it blows up - mutator to adjust that - people connecting to the server don't have to download a mod. I loved UT games for that, only time there was actual downloading needed if if they added sounds and models. My personal favorite for the first UT was called "Batthwap". Remember the classic "BIF!" "POW!" from the 1960's batman series - add that effect to a FPS.
