  • Getting mission packs to load under DirectQ

Hi guys, I'm wondering if I could get some help.

I'm trying to get the Quake games set up and installed for my dad's birthday in a few days. We're on Windows 7 64-bit and after some experimentation I decided DirectQ was the client that worked most stable.

The main game works perfectly and I have manually installed the two addons (into Hypnotic and Rogue folders), and set up shortcuts with -hypnotic and -rogue arguments. But they don't seem to load properly; the new demos do not play, and when starting a new game the level select area just has the standard Quake I stuff.

Here's the must-have details for diagnosis. If you need any further info let me know. I'd greatly appreciate any assistance you fine fellows might provide!

    Dir structure:
    \HIPNOTIC\CONFIG.CFG
    \HIPNOTIC\PAK0.PAK (~34MB)
    \HIPNOTIC\QUAKE.EXE (400KB)
\HIPNOTIC\qwprogs.dat (<-- from a 'fix' I tried downloading; it did not work)
    \ROGUE\PAK0.PAK (~36MB)
    \ROGUE\QUAKE.EXE (400KB)
\ROGUE\qwprogs.dat (<-- from a 'fix' I tried downloading; it did not work)

PAK files in the id1 folder:
    PAK0.PAK (~18MB)
    PAK1.PAK (~33MB)

    Example shortcut target line:
    "C:\Quake I\DirectQ.exe" -HIPNOTIC

Quake prefers lowercase. specifically on commandlines.

    "c:\foo\whatever\directq.exe" -hipnotic

So there's really no need to shout.

Oh wow. That's amazing, haha! Instant fix. That's what I get for assuming the game would prefer me sticking to the casing it used for the folder names; I wouldn't have guessed it was the opposite of case-sensitive.

Thanks for the lightning fast response, dad will be thrilled to play all these again!
