  • Darkplaces has sound but no video on startup.

Okay. The noob is back again and guess what? It is a Darkplaces problem! Yay!

Anyway I have been using darkplaces to play Quake because the OpenGL isn't all washed out like GLQuake is and the extra little effects are cool. So it was working fine for like a day but now when I start it the sound plays but the screen is black. When I blindly make my way to quit and press Y the video shows up for a second right as it closes.

I tried GLQuake and it works so it isn't my video card.

My card is a 512MB and my OS is Mac OS X 10.6.6

I had this issue 2 different times. Both were fixed by deleting my config.cfg in the mods folder (or id1 if just playing normal Q1). Try and just rename it and see if that fixes it. Usually it's due to the resolution not being in "range" of your monitor.

It might work yeah. I at one point just deleted everything and redid Quake but for some reason it didn't fix it =/

Not a solution to your DP problem, but you might consider Quakespasm.

        Quakespasm

        Has OS X version.

        There is also FitzQuake SDL:

        Fitzquake SDL Port
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

          Open your config.cfg and add:
          vid_height "xxx"
          vid_width "xxx"
replace the xxx's with your current desktop resolution. See if that fixes it at all.

The Quakespasm download link is apparently broken. I tried Fitz quake but it basically looks all washed out and bright just like GLQuake to me.

Darkplaces didn't make its own config. file so I have to drag the one from my Quake CD and put it in id1. But when I opened it there was nothing for resizing the screen and Darkplaces still doesn't display video.

I don't know whats going on and how it happened or why thats why it is bothering me >.<

I can't believe there is nothing on the DP website about it.

EDIT: Ooops. I will try adding that to the config

EDIT: Still nothing =/ I don't get why the picture shows up right when I press Y to quit.

Thanks for the link. Not a bad port but it looks just like FitzQuake and QuakeGL to me =/

FuhQuake doesn't even config right. If you path it to basedir from the launcher and click start nothing happens and if you path it to basedir/id1 (where the pak files are) it says it can't find them xD

Don't know about your current situation, but you don't need to copy the config file from your Quake disc. There's a default config file stored in one of the .PAK files, and Quake automatically generates a copy of that default config should the existing config disappear.

Sometimes Quake gets quirky issues that magically fix themselves when you delete your current config file and let Quake make a new one, then set it all up again.
