  • What item + item_texture packs are you using with DP?

    One more noob question from me

    I still use darkplaces-qrp-remodel-plus-plagues-pack.pk3 (from 2007 IIRC) for game items , is there a newer one?
    I have installed QRP's new QRP_item_textures_v.0.73.pk3 (after deleting the weapon textures because I just did not like them) but that does not include medpacks, keys, ammo etc...
    Any suggestions?

    This has various customizations which includes keys and all. This is the ideal pack (imo) for all the pickups in the game to start you off.

    As for your question on newer packs out. Seven and I did a shader animated pickups pack (ammo). I then did a shader animated health packs (the non-shader versions are in the link at the top provided). Check out the releases forum, there's many customizations out and a decent amount are pickups.

      The 'QRP_item_textures_v.0.73_dp.pk3' includes textures for medkits and ammo btw but not keys!
      Make sure you do not use the 'QRP_item_textures_v.0.73_ez.pk3' in DarkPlaces as this pk3 is made for EzQuake which uses a different map structure for replacement textures than DP.

        Now that you have already many proposals to choose from,
        one more thread rushed into my mind, that canot afford to be missed:

        kingennio�s Ruohis models ++ thread
        I myself use many things from it.


        Due to the fact you wrote that you dont like the weapon textures from plaque, you are maybe interested in Ruohis�s weapon textures (some of them can be found in Rygels pack).
        Others are spread over the interent.
        I think someone already mentioned the QuakeWorld GFX page as a good place to look around.

          Seven to the rescue again!

          I am very pleased from inkub0's stuff that I found on the page OoPpEe suggested... ammo, health, items, weapons and holding weapons look awesome to me now
          ofcourse I will check the link you provided, I might like them more! so many choises, so little time... (I am in the process of grabbing your setup from depositfiles, damn hoster only allows 30kb/s LOL , I am sure I will learn some more stuff from it! I did some experiments regarding frames with light_files and extra eye-candy, I have yet to find which light_files are the best... right now I am using Inkub0-romi-rtlights-1.3 for ID1 , Inkub0-RTLights-DoE-1.0 and romirtlights_hipnotic .... I am eager to see what you use!)

            inkub0's in my opinion better, but it's personal preference. He is the only one who has done them for DoE so his are presently the only option - much like Romi is the only one who has done SoA.
            Using the rtlights by inkub0 with the dlights is awesome. You get the realtime lighting with the colored lighting and it looks great. So install both (extract them) and then overright the rtlights with the ones you like more.

              wait a sec.... both? that's new to me...
              so what do I really need?
              In ID1 I have: Inkub0-romi-rtlights-1.3.pk3
              hipnotic: romirtlights_hip.pk3
              rogue: Inkub0-RTLights-DoE-1.0.pk3

              what else am I missing? I use RT world lightning , can I get better results?

                id1 seems to be covered as the filename specifies it's inkub0's and romi's together

                the hipnotic you are all fine on as there's no others out.

                rogue though, find romi's rtlights. Extract the pk3 and keep the dlights and then delete the rtlights. Place the dlights in the maps folder and keep your inkub0 pk3. You will then have colored lighting while keeping inkub0's rtlights

                When I get home, I can upload the dlights for you in a separate pk3 to make things easier

                  awesome! no need to upload a thing, I have "light_files_rogue.pk3" that is romir's
                  will make a "custom pk3" !!

                  edit: deleted some stuff from my post, I found the answers by trial-and-error
                  It appears that I like RT world lighting but with 0 lightmaps. Adding lightmaps make the game too bright, I don't like it and it affects performance too... my [email protected] + 8GB RAM + 560ti-oc-edition system struggles in some parts...!

                  I took 2 crappy pics , on the left my new pc and on the right my p200mmx dos-only machine , running quake in vga mode:

                  full lightmaps is just too bright for my taste...

                    I dont use lightmaps either for the exact same reasons, Its not so good on my machine and actually ruins the atmosphere but I suppose it all depends on your hardware...
                    Still, this does make some maps look better but perform terribly; e1m8/e3m5 for instance...

                    ...oh and I think that is the best before/after screenshot I've ever seen all that effort with both machines, class!

                      I dont understand what OoPpEe meant with .dlight�s for Rogue.

                      There are no .dlit files inside any of Romi�s .rtlights packs.
                      In Romi�s ID1 pack, there are only cubemaps + .rtlights
                      In Romi�s Hipnotic pack, there are only .rtlights

                      If you want to have colored lights in Rogue, you must use Alfader�s Rogue .LIT file pack.


                      .lit files as well as .dlit files are map specific and cannot be used in another map.

                      Here is a screenshot comparism using:
                      - only inkub0�s .rtlights (left)
                      - inkub0�s .rtlights + Alfader�s .lit files (right)

                          @Seven yeah got them confused. Yeah the .lit files and Alfader did them for Rogue, keep the .lit files for MP1/ID1 with the rtlights for the best effects.

                            There is a certain point on the 1st mision of the Rome levels , in the beginning where you kill the 1st ogre and you get the nailgun and some lava nails. Then you take a water-slide that drops you into a pool. (really on the very beginning of the level).
                            So on my setup (q9300/560ti) I stop on the edge of the waterslide before I fall in the pool.
                            I have all .lit/.dlit/rtlight files in my /rogue/ directory and RT World lightning is ON.
                            With 0 RT World lightmaps I get a solid 60fps (vsync is always ON)
                            With more RT World lightmaps the framerate drops to ~30 and way more in the pool area, it even dropped to 15-17fps...
                            In time, Fire will fade ... and only Dark will remain

                              Hello Dani,

                              No, the .lit files will not change a thing on your fps.
                              With or without .lit files, your fps will stay identical.

                              So it is safe to use them

                              The experience, that keropi described is based on RT world enabled and .rtlights.
                              This behaviour is strongly depending on your hardware type.


                              Keropi,

                              you should try and turn your V-Sync OFF,
                              it will raise your fps quite much (also in this situation that you described)
