  • Linux Clients: QuakeSpasm vs Darkplaces

I've recently been getting back in to Quake 1 and I'm wondering which of the two still-supported Linux clients is better for general use. I don't really care about fancy graphics, but mod and map compatibility is important as is being able to play nice with whatever MP servers are still active. My question, then, is which client is best for these sorts of purposes or are they about equal. Also, for Darkplaces, is my system even good enough: I'm on an Athlon II X2 250 with 2 GB of RAM and the AMD 785G (Radeon 4200) IGP (fglrx drivers)

I define general use as mostly single player but also some netplay on occasion.

I'd go with QuakeSpasm (despite DP being technically superior in so many ways). The reason why is on account of it's FitzQuake heritage; with FQ being the preferred engine of most of the SP mapping community it's the option that is most likely to work as intended by the mapper.

There are lots of good Linux clients, just try them all.
