  • Darkplaces: To the MAX

    Hey guys!

I recently remembered darkplaces and how awesome it was. To pass the time until BF3 is released, I thought I'd reinstall this and all the latest shiny wallpaper I can find. I'm having some difficulty though.

    I have:
    -Quake (patched I believe)
    -Rygel's Ultra Pack
    -Romi's RT light's
    -Reforged Monster Skins
-dpmod (can't seem to start it from the mod list though, game just explodes)
-will be setting up Seven's particle effects asap

Now those alone look pretty amazing. After I messed with the color and brightness settings ingame, I got something looking like it came right outta 2007!

    However I am encountering difficulties.
    1. Even though I vispatched my Quake maps (at least, I think I did. I ran the exe and it opened a DOS prompt/box for a split second and closed it before I could read it), I still get that stupid mirrorlike water (where it flat out is an exact mirror of the skybox) or completely opaque default textures. Playing with the water alpha setting didn't seem to help. Any advice on how to get the "DP Pretty Water" pack to work?

    2. I also noticed the 3D flames on the torches are missing in some spots, but present in others. Any way to fix this? I also saw a thread a while back that combined both the sprite version of the flame AND the 3D flame model, which looked fantastic imo. How do I set that up? I'll scour the forums and find it if I can.

    3. One of my favorite things about Quake is the soundscape. However, I don't have my original quake CD and thus, no music. I DO however have the OST downloaded on my HDD in mp3 format. Is there any way I can rig those up to play properly ingame? Like as in, on their proper respective parts/levels?

I'll continue scouring the forums for fixes, but anyone with any insight would get an internet cookie from me if they can help!

Also, any other mods that make Darkplaces look even more slick than it already does would be great as well!

    Thanks gents!

    Hello Brock,

1.) Please look into post #1 of this thread.
You will find the VISed maps there. Ready to download.
You will then have to read the readme.txt in "DP pretty water V0.51" very carefully.

2.) Because you use Rygels pack.
Delete the flame.mdl in it and you are done.
To get both (flame poly model + sprite) you must use a mod.
You can for example use this one

3.) Convert them to .ogg, then download the soundtrack (search it via search button) and rename it according to the files in the soundtrack.
Put the files into ID1/sound/cdtracks/track002.ogg etc.

4.) You will find all of them in the "finished works" subforum of quakeone.com.

I suggest you use QRP world textures and normals V1.0 instead of Rygels.
You will also encounter more issues with Rygels pack (not spinning weapons/items, incorrect normals for almost ALL models, etc.)
inkub0 created a thread for beginners to start with, here.
You might want to read it.

    Regards,
    Seven

      Okay

I'm only using Rygel's pack because the QRP has been in limbo for years! I'm glad it's finally out! Anyways I'm using that now.

I can't get the music to work though. I converted them to .ogg and named them track02, track03, etc and it didn't work. Tried naming them track002, track003, and that didn't work either. :/

        C:\Quake\id1\sound\cdtracks

          Issues

          1. Renamed all the tracks to track00X and it didn't work. Yes, they're in .ogg format. No they're not corrupt, I'm able to play them with VLC just fine.
          2. Rygel's had a very nice collection of weapon models that I'm sure you've all seen. Any place I can go to grab those and add em?

On the bright side, I've got The QRP w/ normals + Romi's lights + pretty water up and running! I've still yet to try Seven's particle effects and find a torch that I like, but yeah.

For now, I need help with the weapon models and music plox

At this point I've tried starting at track1 and track2 for both the track0X and track00X methods. Neither seem to work.

EDIT: Converted the soundtrack files again, using a different converter and named them according to the instructions set forward by LordHavoc himself (starts with track002). Still didn't work. Even tried mounting a Quake CD image using PowerISO to no avail. I'm beginning to wonder if they're supposed to be a specific sampling rate or something... I'm going to keep fiddling with it, but I'm open to suggestions. Quake is only half the experience without the music

My question about the models sticks.

Also, I grabbed a pack (I believe you made this, Seven) that supposedly adds the flames of dpmod without actually adding dpmod. I packed it up into a .pk3 but it didn't seem to work. I selected all the files necessary and wrapped em up into a .pk3 using Winrar. Could someone provide some help on this? Pwease? :3
