  • Problem with Quake (Darkplaces) on KUBUNTU (choppy graphics)

    Dear all,

I have downloaded the Darkplaces engine and downloaded pak0.pak from QuakeOne - Quake 1 Resurrection - Quake 1 File Downloads - Pak0.pak to get all needed to run the game.

The game started perfectly, but after that, game freezes every few second for a second, thus it is not possible to play.

Since there are many quake variables, perhaps it is possible to setup (debug) game that it will run fluently.

    My configuration is> notebook lenovo thinkpad t420, i5-2410M / 4GB / 500GB / 14,0" HD+ LED / Intel HD Graphics 3000 / DVDRW DL / WWAN ready / Bth. / Geth. / FPR / Cam / 6cell / W7 Pro64 / 3r.

Therefore, let me please ask for help. where to start to debug the game. I appolpogize, if this was already discussed.

    regards
    futuros

That pak0.pak is for all the DM maps and all - NOT the pak0.pak Darkplaces needs to run.
All Darkplaces needs is pak0.pak from the shareware or full version of quake in:
    ..../your-quake-folder/id1

Did you choose Darkplaces specifically or do you "just want to play Quake". If so, I recommend Quakespasm instead.

        Thanks guys,

i going to test both options. I am really big fun of quake, played it a long time before, and since I moved to linux two months before, i decided that first game that will be played on the new OS should be QUAKE. What else.

I finally solved the problem. When I disabled KDE desktop graphical efects, the game started to be fluent.
