  • DarkPlaces Performance Tweak Thread

Hi all! I thought I would start a thread for people to post performance tweaks for DarkPlaces.

Know a way to increase FPS with DarkPlaces without (noticeably) sacrificing flash? Here is the place to post it!

Just use specific builds. I'm using 2011-02-03 build and I have average FPS of 70-80 when playing with all effects turned on (except of HDR - I don't like the way it is done in DP, simple bloom looks for me better and doesn't kill FPS as HDR does), with QRP texture packs and rtlights, with improved weapons and monsters models, in 1680*1050 resolution. I have Core 2 quad with 4gB memory and GF9800GT - as you can see, my system is not so powerful, but it is good enough to play DP.
The latest autobuilds usually gives much worser FPS.

I use that build and STILL have to turn RT World off, shadows off and even THEN the game crawls at around 35 fps. In terms of performance, several other Quake clients run circles around DP. This indicates to me that there MUST be room for some tweaking to allow DP to run more efficiently.

Of course. Put the eye candy asside and dp runs great. You could not have all the candy and 60 fps, that's not possible and even not on your notebook. It's time to face the fact that your machine isn't able to run dp with all that stuff. Let some things away (pretty water for example cuts my fps in half) and it'll run great. Opening many threads about the same problem doesn't solve it at all.

The purpose of this thread is to explore ways of getting the most out of DP's features. It isn't just about struggles I've had with it. This thread is actually intended to LIMIT the number of multiple threads related to performance optimization with DarkPlaces.
