  • FTEQW skyboxes, how to load it?

    Well, hello guys.

I've have all in place, the textures, the custom config, etc, in FTEQW

    But I've two questions:
    1. Iv'e the files for the skyboxes, but it not load
    2. I've the original Hexen II CD with the sound track (redbook). If I convert the tracks to OGG or MP3, any way to FTEQW load these music archives?

About the skyboxes: I've downloaded the texture pack from

    Hexen 2 Texture Pack

and I put this textures into the UQE port, and it loaded all skyboxes without problems. Here show how install the textures...

The two last files are the skyboxes, and it was loaded without problems.

But the same texture pack not work fine into the FTEQW, because it not load the skyboxes... take a look. (all other textures are loaded OK).

The same, the two last files are the skyboxes, and it was not loaded by FTEQW.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank's a lot.

a skybox is a collection of 6 images named via the r_skybox cvar.
those two images are not a box and therefore not a skybox.

    rename the sky001_alpha.tga to sky001_trans.tga
the solid part should already be loaded.

finding all the third-party dlls to enable ogg playback is not easy, and I have no idea where to find them right now.

      Thanks for the reply Spike,

But it still not work. I changed the name of the file, but nothing happens.

Here's some screens to compare two ports:

      FTEQW

      UQE

I don't know why exactly it don't work on FTEQW, so, where I can find some skyboxes to download for FTEQW, I think thats is better.

I don't want use the UQE, because this don't allow to modify the FOV, and the console in FTEQW is much more modern than in UQE.

I recognize that UQE has better bloom compatibility. The bloom effect in FTEQW shows a blanking flashes of colors, or a black rectangle on the bottom left of the screen, here's some pics:

      Thanks for all Spike.

            Hello Cataflexia,

            just like Spike said:
The 2 files that you show is meant to be used for moving sky.
Its 2 layers (upper and lower) are the 2 files you showed.

When you speak about a skybox, then the sky will be static (not moving) and you always need seperate files for all 6 sides of the cube (world).

To use a skybox in FTEQW put the 6 files into this folder:
            Hexen2\data1\gfx\env

Like Spike said, you can use ALL common skybox sets, that work with the Quake-family engines.

A good place to start is here:
            Kothic skybox pack
            DOWNLOAD

To load the skybox of your choice in-game, simply type into console:
            r_skybox NAME
where NAME is the skybox file-set name without the 2 cube side endings.

Have fun with skyboxes in your FTEQW Hexen2.

Well, I finally discovered the problem and it worked for me. Take a look:

The problem was that the path of the skybox files are wrong.

The specific bad path are: DRIVE LETTER:\FTEWQ\data1\textures\demo1\...

Into the demo1 subdirectory (where demo1 is the first stage from normal Hexen II), there is two files for the sky textures...

I change the name of the sky001_alpha.tga to sky001_trans.tga, but nothing happens.

The problem was that the files that need to change the filename are in other directory, that all.

              The right directory is:
              DRIVE LETTER:\FTEWQ\data1\textures\...

I change the filename of this texture, and it works! Great!

Now, why there is the same two files in all subdirectories of each stage? (demo1, demo2, castle4). I don't know, but the important thing is that it work for me now, and looks great.

Thank's to everyone, and for all.
