  • Just finished QUake - Where's Shub Niggurath's chamber?

Finished the azure agony level, it gave me the yay you've finished this bit now on to shubby text, then it warped me back to the start level, with all but the first episode entrance blocked off, as if I was restarting the game.
SHouldn't it be taking me to shub niggurath's pit?
I did a map end warp to the pit, so I know it's there, but I'm not sure what's going on with the DP engine and/or vis'd maps (seven's) to make me not warp there naturally.

    [EDIT:
Think I may have figured it out.
I changed difficulty on the last two episodes - would that stuff up getting to the ending?
    Looks like it has.
Do you have the complete the entire game on one particular difficulty level to get to shub niggurath?
    If so,
    BALLS!!!
    That sucks.]

LOL, it is not my fault.

It is a known save "bug".
Just look at your runes that you collected....
If you dont have all 4 of them, the floor will not open.

It is caused by saving your game on the wrong place.
That causes the save file to forget that you already had the rune.

    Workaround for you:
Give yourself the missing rune via cheat and enter the last teleporter that brings you back into start map.
    That should do it.

    Regards,
    Seven

Is there any proof for that? I would love to know the exact circumstances if so.

From my experience it is PEBKAC (or rather, Quake's stupid start map) that leads to this problem. I am pretty sure I once thought the save state was persistent even without manually saving so I did not save on the start map after finishing an episode but quit and on the next start started another.

yeah, i know the prob, i had it a few times too before.

but i solved it by just replaying the episode i was missing the rune from.
its fun to play it again. so im like, why not, right
          .

In the console just type "changelevel end"

Beat shub and have a good day.

For me, one of the most impressive moments in ID1 Quake is the moment when you jump out of the water at the beginning of end map.
You will find yourself in front of a huge lava-teleporter.
              This scenario is self-explaining.
I cannot forget the moment when I saw it the first time.
Romi did a great job and extended this feeling with beautiful rtlights even more in that area.
It pulls my hairs on my arms upwards (if this is the correct english translation)
What happens after you took a deep breath and jump into it, is not so good imo.
Middle and end of the map is solala.
