  • Non-Standard Keyboard Layouts

I noticed most Quake clients only support the default American keyboard layout.
In fact, of the engines I tested only Darkplaces seems to support the french azerty layout common in my country.

Now I know which buttons are hidden where most of the time, but it's still kind of annoying when typing in the console and such. I'm not aware if there's something I should change on my side, like a cvar perhaps.

So, just throwing this out there... Perhaps some engine codemonkeys could make it a new year's resolution?

for many quakeworld engines, you can set in_builtinkeymap 0 in order to use the proper keymap.
I hear its problematic on german keyboards as there's no tilde key, so no easy console access, but should work if stuff is rebound properly. Don't expect to be able to use accents or other non-ascii chars though.

british keyboard don't match quake either.

~ is there but console is reached via ^ which is the key left from 1(!). German layout, no problems here with dp for example. In vanilla Quake there is only the us keymap available. And as Spike said, simply remap the keys via the costumize controls option.
