  • Quakespasm Gamma

I grabbed the new build and it seems to still have no brightness.
Reading some of the forum posts I found a patched SDL lib that may fix it but had no luck.
If in fact I ran the lib correctly by dropping it in the quake dir
    [email protected]:~$ cd quake
    [email protected]:~/quake$ ./quakespasm export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    Command line: ./quakespasm export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:

The slider had no effect but the client was usable.
This client seems to about the best option for us Linux Quakers.
I hope someone else could please help with this one small issue that stands in our way.

The developers heavily monitor the following thread as the central source of feedback:

    Func_Msgboard: Quakespasm Engine

    No registration required.

I personally don't know too much about hardware gamma + SDL + Linux so I don't have any useful info.

But posting that in thread @ func usually gets a very rapid response from the developers.

/Quakespasm is an extremely high quality engine and has a very great collection of developers.

Do the export first, then start it.
      [email protected]:~/quake$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
      [email protected]:~/quake$ ./quakespasm

I followed the instructions here: Bug 971 – Gamma control do not work with Xorg 7.5 release
and installed a modified SDL lib system wide, works for me But don't try that if you don't know what you're are doing or - more important - know how to recover from it.
I got it wrong the first time and had 2 different SDL installations at the same time with "interesting" results.

Quakespasm has a new release and gamma is fixed!
At least it is working now with Debian Squeeze 64.The only problem now is it is broken otherwise as it wont connect to servers .DOH!
        Thanks Leopold,
that was the correct method to use.
I was trying it like this
        [email protected]:~/quake$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH & ./quakespasm
my understanding From what I thought I was being told, was wrong.
It is always best to have an example to see like you have shown.
        Thank you.
My singleplayer errors are edict messages and the final one is a rain think error that leaves me to think that I may have some corruption from my work with the SMC mod.
I have customized my DM2 and added ent files to my maps folder.
I will check this out this weekend.
        Thanks Baker,
you were right they do seem to be quite active over there.

Keep pushing. Multiplayer types are the salvation and the completion of the single player niche. There can be no other way. Anyone can be niche; getting things right in the greater spectrum of truth is sign of breadth, of which such importance exceeds any other type of depth.

And we have enough niche engines ... the world is not seeking more of them.

My suspicions were correct,My DM2 I had modified with stigmata effects were causing the errors for single player as I had copied it from the Dark places install.
However the client still just sits at the console saying connection accepted.

Please confirm that you are running 85.7 and connecting.
I had no problem connecting with 85.4
