Mostly happens from the server browser.
I didnt try to type the ip from the config. But ya it kinda flashed the screen the hangs. Thinking it closed i noticed it was still in the task manager...
I guess I could try running in debug mode.
Please do give that a try, my time isn't as plentiful since I started working at Valve (porting Steam to Linux) so I'm sadly a bit less likely to debug it anytime soon.
