  • I like the feel of EZquake...

But there are problems. I am using dark places and it does work, even though its dark (much like single player).

I downloaded the nQuake package for Apple Macintosh and installed it via terminal (NERD!) and it controls nice.

Couple of problems. Mouse sensitivity maxes at 12, waaaay too slow compared to what I have set up in dark places. I can't figure out how to get the alternative weapon modes to work. in DP i just press the same key twice and the blue key shows up.

EZquake is strictly for multiplayer for the most part, i read. but is it really better than dark places?

probably been 100+ threads asking the same thing so apologies in advance if this is a worthless thread xD

Oh thank you ^^ I'll try that.

Also I noticed. When I connect to quake.shmack.net in EZquake it's empty, even though people are playing when I join on ProQuake and DarkPlaces >.>

EzQuake is a QuakeWorld client, it uses a different protocol than original Quake.
        DP can connect to both.

so why can't it see players on quake.shmack.net when i join with ezquake? its like the servers empty when its not because when i join in DP and pro quake or quake world the server has players playing.

is it a server setting in ezquake maybe?

There are actually two multiplayer modes of Quake: Netquake and Quakeworld. Each community says its one is better. If you are in the US you want NQ, in Europe, South America you want QW. ezQuake only supports QW. You could try Joequake or Qrack for a similar engine that supports NQ. Quakeone.com is a NQ site.

Does Dark Places use NQ? It seems JoeQuake only works on Linux and Windows and Qrack only seems to work on windows ><

Shmack runs both netquake and qw.
using ezquake to connect to shmack will port you to slots qw rune server.
Using joequake, or the all mighty rooks qrack will port you to the netquake shmack server.

Both run rq beautifully, we can all thank slot and the contributors for keeping the servers alive.
