  • Bulletholes/particles/decals all replaced by squares in darkplaces :(

Hi all, I was hoping someone here might be able to help me out.

I finally got all the darkplaces mod packs that I wanted all working and looking great on my pc, but at some point all my bulletholes, flames, corpseflies and so on have mysteriously changed into blank (but coloured) squares!

Changing the particle font & particle quality doesnt change anything.

    Pictures attached...

I thought maybe some of the mods might be conflicting with eachother but I can't put my finger on it, and was hoping someone might have had a similar issue in the past.

    Thanks for looking anyway

    Hello meggan,

your issue is, that the effectinfo.txt that you are using does not fit to the particlefont that you are using.

Looking at your screenshots tells me that almost all particles have the wrong texture !

Once you start to deal with multiple replacement packs, these issues are very common.

The files you have to concentrate on are:
    - effectinfo.txt
    - particlefont.tga

    Solution:
If you lost the overview of all the mutliple packs inside your ID1 folder,
you have to put these directly into your ID1 (to overwrite all the others).

Put the effectinfo.txt directly into your ID1 folder.
Put the particlefont.tga into a subfolder called "ID1\particles" (simply create the "particles" subfolder)

This way DP will use these 2 files ( independently of how many others are inside your .pk3 jungle).

I suggest to use these 2 files from an origin that you can trust...
Only this makes sure that they cover all additional effects from the small mod compilation, that you seem to be using.

    Have fun,
    Seven

    EDITED:

Start with these first and see if you are satisfied: click
(these are the ones that come with SMC V3.80)
    If not, try different ones.

      You rule, Seven!

What's odd is that it's mainly your stuff that I've been using all along, but that doesn't matter now, cos it's finally perfect

      Thanks a million.
