  • What's the fastest client?

What's the fastest advanced client (excluding the crappy software rendered quakes (joequake, winquake, etc... and glqoake, glpro, glquake ten, glpro+, etc)
Looking for the fastest client that's "advanced", suck as DarkPlaces, Joequake, Qrack, Tenebrae, Telejano, etc...

In my experience, DarkPlaces is the fastest engine that does anything notable.

so you don't want crappy clients like joequake but you want answers like joequake? .... que?

Joequake runs considerably fast even under heavy rocket fire. I'm sure Qrack is the same way.

Darkplaces tends to crap out with lag when heavy rocket fire occurs. Maybe it's just my graphics card.

        edit: No, wait. Try Twilight

iirc DarkPlaces was born out of Twilight basically dying. Hence it is located at icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces and the Twilight people hang out in #darkplaces

CanadianSniper - Honestly I do believe it is your videocard, the only time DP has gotten lag for me is under extraneous conditions (such as 10,000 knights, or hundreds of lights recalculating dynamically in a complicated map).

There was a new Twilight release during last year's QExpo and they stated it to be the fastest engine. I haven't tested that though

#1 on your list is to get the LATEST darkplaces, not the one from August 2005 or whenever it is. Baker made the same mistake when he ran screaming to inside3d.

#2 is to disable realtime lighting. :p If your computer isn't pretty recent, rtlighting won't be pretty, even if it's only on dynamic lights.

Actually I keep rtlights on on the dlight entities, makes for more drama in the rocket battles... doesnt hurt my performance as much, and technically Im running a slower card.

Actually in coop dpmod I will often have full rtlights on because it doesnt hurt the gameplay that much. DM is a different matter (though Ive played with it on in RA before).

Or check the files directory for newer betas.
