  • DirectQ error with rygel's textures

Does DirectQ support hi-res textures? I get this error when trying to use Rygel's textures:
    unknown model type for maps/b_shell1.bsp ('I' 'D' 'P' '3')

I assume DirectQ doesn't support a box of shells model in the pack.

    Use these instead
    1st download
http://bfeared.com/library/quake/qrp..._v.1.00.pk3.7z (base replacement set of textures.)

    2nd download
http://bfeared.com/library/quake/qrp..._v.1.00.pk3.7z(get the other one first then this one.)

The 'Map textures v.1.00' is Quake Retexturing Project's first 100% complete map texture pack since the project started over 8 years ago in late 2002. Many project members have come and gone over the years and even if these members have not contributed to this particular release, they all still part of the project's achievements in whole.

As a follow up to last year's beta release the Quake Retexturing Project now also release a 100% complete normal map texture pack.

That box of shells model is actually a .md3 renamed to .bsp to fool standard QC - Rygel's pack is a little evil in this regard (it'll crash other engines too - e.g. FitzQuake). Shenanigans like this frequently give me cause for regretting ever having implemented external texture support...

        (just an opinion)

I would disagree, KillingTime and myself both Love and ADORE the damn external texture support.

I have wanted to get a modern playerskin to look just as sexy as my DM3 w/ texture replacement set's. For the record, I didn't modify/rename ANY files, I ripped apart the pk3 files that was supplied, dumped everything into textures folder, and they worked without any shenanigans involved.

Have had zero luck, but now it seems if I understand what you said, some unconventional file extension renaming riff-raff could/would maybe get me a good looking playerskin replacement.

never tried rygel's -- think it's like a 2gb or so dl qrp textures work fine for me -- i use the following ones:

          QRP_item_textures_v.0.73_dp.pk3
          QRP_map_textures_v.1.00.pk3
          QRP_normalmap_textures_add-on_v.1.00.pk3

just drop these into id1 and off you go.

whoa ... WE LOVE external texture support! i made a post -- http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...s-support.html -- that's all about bringing quake into the 21st century. it will be *very hard* to get new players to take on a game that looks like it's from the dos era when anything they see these days looks at the very minimum like hd quake. so, here's hoping for even more goodies to come in the next version of dq. keep up the good work and thanks, i can think i can say, from all of us for a great client!

Who needs external texture support when you can have something like these? mhquake: More Bloom Samples

Seeing lighting like that in Quake beats the hell out of shoving your face into walls any day in my book.
