Hey guys I was wondering is there a way to turn off all the messages that show up on the top left of the screen like "you got the shells" I want to be able to fully immerse myself in the game, I've been able to turn off the crosshair and hud but still can't figure out how to turn off these system messages, I've also checked DP's command section, please help!

Hmmm, I'm no Darkplaces expert but I seem to recall Splitterface recently mentioned in a thread that there was a command in DP called con_notify which should effectively close down the console messages. I believe the default value is something like 4 but you could try experimenting with con_notify 0 and see if it does what you need.
There's some additional useful links and information from the ever helpful Seven in there too
Hope this helps

It worked! thank you
edit: umm, I might as well ask while I'm here,
Can the loading info during level load be disabled? eg. maps/c1a1 message and progress bar
I've been looking here and searching things like "loading" and "progress" but no luck:

I know some engines have an autodownload feature that will check your current maps and try to pull down a missing map [that are trying to play] from an internet repository automatically so you don't have to faff around trying to find it. Whilst it is downloading it usually displays a progress bar like you have described, but from that point on this operation is skipped and you don't get this if the map is [re]selected. Is this the sort of thing you are seeing? Or is it observed every time you select any map?
Kind regards

Nah I only play singleplayer, I see this loading bar every time there's a loading screen eg when starting a game, loading a save or after finishing a level, it says a few things, most notably the map name and almost every single type of enemy that's going to be in that level.
here's a pic:
closest thing I've found so far is scr_loadingscreen_background "1"
it stops the screen from going black during a level load but the bar staysLast edited by ac3d; 03-15-2013, 06:16 AM.

What I wouldn't give to have that damn loading screen be optional and not just plain a built-in feature.
I've had this same issue as well.
What I'd really want is for it to have the option to just freeze the screen entirely until the next level finishes loading with only the 'loading' bar in the middle of the screen.
This is the way it was done in the Original Quake when it came out in 1996... In its singleplayer... it would just freeze your screen with 'loading' in the middle and as soon as the next map loads it just puts you right there at the next level start...
This is similar in nature to when you hit the PAUSE key. It's frozen until you or it is done. Nothing fancy.
DarkPlaces may allow you to remove the 'black background' but you should also have 2 more options.
To not display that whole loading bar element.
To not even display any 'loading stuff' and just freeze until the next level finishes loading and resume.
If you want to get this in DarkPlaces you may just have to push for it being included in a later release.
Go contact DarkPlace's authors/programmers and on their own forums (I dunno if DarkPlaces has its own site apart from QuakeOne.com for forums) and make your suggestions over there.
Even go and actually e-Mail the author(s) of DarkPlaces if you have to with you concerns.
All you can do after that point is patiently wait in hopes more than just you want the feature badly enough for it to be included...

I don't know if it will help but you could try the DarkPlaces Web site for starters. From what I can see Lord Havoc's email is lordhavoc at ghdigital dot com (understandably, to avoid spam bots he doesn't appear to like his actual email address quoted so please respect that).
Hope this helps

Hello H1CC & ac3d,
Mr Burns already linked you to the correct page in his 1st post.
Why not follow it ?
To get rid of the progress bar, use:
scr_loadingscreen_barheight 0
As I mentioned, use the "apropos" command if you are searching for a DP cvar.
You can search for cvar-fragments with it and you will most probably find what you are looking for.
Now your next question will surely be how to remove the "LOADING" texture in the screen-center...
Have fun,
Seven

..I'm afraid to ask xD but there's just one thing left, after a level load the console pulls all the way down over the screen and then disappears, I have tried searching with the apropos command you posted Seven but no luck. I would let this console thing slide but I just checked vanilla Quake and it only does this during game startup, after that the game loads each level with no on-screen interruptions.
If this last thing cannot be disabled it's no problem, and thank you to all you guys for your helpLast edited by ac3d; 03-18-2013, 05:15 AM.

IMO at least.
It can be done in FTE, not sure about DP. Someone would have to create a pack of nice levelshots though. I'm amazed that no one has done that yet, actually.
Hello gb,
If R00k would have been interested in this thread, he surely would have posted this.
If you download R00ks "qrack2011full" pack (maybe there is also a newer one, I dont know), you will find screenshots from all original levels plus some which seem to be familiar multiplayer levels.
They are placed inside qrack\textures\levelshots
They are not as fancy as the one that Mindz posted (they seem to be DP shots).
I agree with you, this engine feature is a nice one.
Best wishes,
Seven
