  • Steam update has screwed me over...

    Hi,

After editing my map and starting up Steam, I noticed there was an update for Steam, which I downloaded. I now cannot launch map packs using the command line parameters in the shortcut (-game whatever +map etc...) and I also get a 'failed to find Steam application when I try to load up glquake from the steamapps/common/Quake directory. What happened?

You need to edit your game location stuff....

my signature has a steam relating link that will direct you to the area of the steam client where you can fix this.

If you have issue's with this further feel free to annoy me,I'll hover in your post for awhile refreshing page now and then. Even if this means importing Quake into my Steam and fetching that update after setting it up, but I don't think that will be needed heh.

Hey there, thanks for your help. I chose Fitzquake and it works great again!

why use steam? copy the id folder out of your common folder, then use a custom engine, like dp,fte, proq, fitz.

A custom engine is pretty much mandatory these days, steam or no steam. The Winquake/GLQuake that ships with steam does work but it's horribly outdated.

I've never tried Fitzquake, I suppose I should give it a try just for the sake of knowing.

Truthfully , Quake outside of Steam = The best...

Fitzquake is great: it retains the old-school 'feel' of Quake, but gives it a smooth graphical overhaul, and fixes some of the glitches native to glquake. I thoroughly recommend it.
