  • Newbie question: Importing Images into maps

    Afternoon all,

Forgive the newbie question but I have had a little free time on my hands recently and have been trying to dip my toe in the water of Quake Mapping. To add a little realism to a map I wondered what the process was for taking an image (bmp, gif, jpg) and then converting it in to a format I can use within a map to produce a picture, texture or whatever else takes my fancy. I seem to recall someone mentioning that the pallette has to be changed to something more Quake friendly but if anyone has any helpful suggestions (cough, peg, cough ) on how this is accomplished I would be grateful if you could pm me or post them in this thread.

    Kind regards

    Monty

you can use some tool like adquedit (there are probably better alternative programs) to create a texture wad which can be specified in whatever mapping program you're using.
It'll look like poo though, so be sure to use an engine that supports 24bit replacement textures.

        Hello Mr.Burns,

I think I have seen some ancient maps where the elders idolized a once living human, who looked a little bit like you do....

They chiseled his portrait into stone, so that he lived forever

Ahh, I just found the map:

        I hope you dont mind
It was just a joke (a little bit british humor maybe ?)

        Good luck Mr. Burns.

wally is unbeatable for working with wads, I think. It has a lot of paint tools built in. Almost a paint program for Quake wads. Also has auto import and wad merge wizards.

Thanks you to all that replied, I'm trying to take a simple photo and make it in to a sort of Poster within the map. I'm trying these apps as we speak but just wanted to say thanks

                Kind regards
