  • Server Access Problem - Only lets one in?!

    Hello All..

I really enjoy Quake and have been playing it for 10 years. I was so happy when my son was old enough to play with me (gore and stuff turned off) and so we have set up a LAN for him and his friends. He is a hit on the street!

I travel a lot and have been able to log in and join the the games to play with him (have 5 PCs at home and me remotely) and it plays quite well!

HOWEVER - recently I tried to get someone else to log in and it kicked me out. I went back in and it kicked them out. I realized this was a problem. I read enough and figured Quake can only handle ONE connection through the router and that made sense as it kept thinking the new connection was current. I thought I read that moving that my GAMESERVER to the DMZ would help. When I did my second test it failed TOO!

Now, I need some help. What and why am I doing wrong. I think I got QUAKE ENHANCED from a torrent and its using the Darksomething ENgine? IS that right or shall I get another version / server?

Any ideas? I imagine this is a simple problem but being an older game, finding information is hard.

Can comeone help me or point me in the right direction??

    THanks!

BORG.. well, that is my Quake Name!

Actually, this is not true. I know of several players that have played with a friend both online. I can start several separate Quake connections from this very computer, router or not.

I assume you are using the DarkPlaces engine. You would need to provide the version # (it says a date in the console at the bottom right corner in red, something like DarkPlaces July 27 2005) and an example of a server you cannot connect to.

If YOU are SERIOUS about wanting to solve this problem ASAP as easily as possible, you should download the mirc irc client (http://www.mirc.com/get.html) and then click this link:

    irc://irc.anynet.org/darkplaces

to live chat with the DarkPlaces people. They could easily help you out in real time.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Thanks for the advice! I checked and I am at Darkplaces APR 12 2007.

I am currently travelling in the NEWFOUNDLAND time zone which is 1.5 hours ahead of Eastern and so I will try the IRC link tonight when I get back to the hotel. I will be back online tonight and able to try remote sessions too.

Its been great for me to play into the LAN at home - I just have been unable to bring in other people to the LAN.

      Thanks for Help

click here for a list of command-line options for darkplaces

by default DP uses network protocol DP7.. u may need to set it to QUAKE (put "sv_protocolname QUAKE" in your servers autoexec.cfg) to allow other clients like proquake and qrack to connect to the server..

/i'm not an expert on darkplaces..

OK.. thanks for that advice too! I am learning a lot quickly and will talk to the DarkPlaces guys later on IRC (I would really like to know how it all comes together i.e. where do I put commands and how do I disable things in the config or autoexec.. but that is another posting..
HOWEVER... I see a lot of talk of PROQUAKE and was wondering (quickly before I do research) if that version play COOP and with the two mission packs??. Because my son and his friends are all 9 and 10, and because I preach teamwork and cooperation in solving levels (not outright slaughter and anniliation of the enemy - that the most frags wins) I need coop play.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Aren't you able to have multiple connections going through the router if you set the -ip command in the target line??
